Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Process‐Informed Analysis of As‐Built Metal Additive Surface Features

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces a novel method for feature‐based surface texture characterisation directly incorporating manufacturing variables into the feature extraction workflow. This marks a major step towards identifying process‐specific surface properties and their influence on part function and hence a holistic understanding of process–structure ...

Three Kinds օf Porosity օn Functionally Graded Porous Beams

open access: yesJournal of Architectural and Engineering Research, 2022
In this paper, the effects of three types of porosity on bending behavior of functionally graded porous (FGP) beams are studied. The finite element procedure is established and based on the simple Timoshenko beam theory.

Non-linear thermal post-buckling analysis of FGM Timoshenko beam under non-uniform temperature rise across thickness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The present work deals with geometrically non-linear post-buckling load–deflection behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) Timoshenko beam under in-plane thermal loading.

An elasticity solution for functionally graded beams

open access: yesComposites Science and Technology, 2001
An elasticity solution is obtained for a functionally graded beam subjected to transverse loads. The Young’s modulus of the beam is assumed to vary exponentially through the thickness, and the Poisson ratio is held constant. The exponential variation of the elastic stiffness coefficients allow an exact solution for the elasticity equations.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Copper–Tungsten Composites for Heat Sink Applications in High‐Power Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

Scalable Freeze-Tape-Casting Fabrication and Pore Structure Analysis of 3D LLZO Solid-State Electrolytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Nonflammable solid-state electrolytes can potentially address the reliability and energy density limitations of lithium-ion batteries. Garnet-structured oxides such as Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) are some of the most promising candidates for solid-state devices.

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability
