Photothermal characterization of functionally graded materials (FGM)
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002This paper deals with the photothermal characterization of functionally graded materials (FGM) whose thermal properties are varying parallel to the sample surface. Simple experimental configurations and associated inversion procedures are proposed either for thermal mapping or for pitch-catch imaging mode.

BUCKLING AND WRINKLING OF A FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIAL (FGM) THIN FILM
International Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2012The instability of a functionally graded material (FGM) strip as a free standing film or a substrate-bound film is studied in this work, in which the stiffness of the film is assumed to change exponentially along the length. The buckling load and the buckling mode shapes for the free standing FGM film are determined analytically.

Toolpaths for additive manufacturing of functionally graded materials (FGM) parts
Rapid Prototyping Journal, 2014Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to propose an evaluation of toolpaths for additive manufacturing of functionally graded materials (FGM) parts to ensure the manufacturing of parts in compliance with the desired material distribution. The selection of an appropriate path strategy is critical when manufacturing FGM parts.Design/methodology/approach–

Review of previous works on functionally graded materials (FGM)
South Florida Journal of DevelopmentThis paper presents bibliographical research on previous works of FGM functional gradient materials. We notice that functional gradient materials represent a relatively new line of research. Since the appearance of the FGM concept, many researchers have been interested in it, and countless works have been published, but there is still much to be done.

Manufacturing of Complex Parts with Continuous Functionally Graded Materials (FGM)
2011One of major evolutions of the additive manufacturing is the ability to produce parts with functionally graded materials (FGM). However, manufacturing of these parts is limited to discrete or nearly continuous FGM on samples. To achieve this, it is necessary to have a global control of processes and to develop methodologies to help designers and ...

Vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) grid systems
Steel and Composite Structures, 2015The paper considers the free vibration analysis of FGM grid systems. Up to now, very little work has been done on this type of system and the paper aspires to fill this gap. Based on the hybrid-stress finite element formulation free vibration solutions for FGM grid systems of various aspect ratios, different types of gradations functions, and support ...

Functionally Graded Material (FGM) Parts: From Design to the Manufacturing Simulation
Volume 4: Advanced Manufacturing Processes; Biomedical Engineering; Multiscale Mechanics of Biological Tissues; Sciences, Engineering and Education; Multiphysics; Emerging Technologies for Inspection and Reverse Engineering; Advanced Materials and Tribology, 2012Recent developments in additive manufacturing processes add opportunities to manufacture metallic parts. One of major recent evolutions of additive manufacturing is the ability to produce parts with functionally graded materials (FGM). These materials can be characterized by the variation in composition and structure gradually over the volume.

Electric Field Grading by Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) for HVDC Gas Insulated Power Apparatus
2018 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP), 2018Functionally graded materials (FGM) have been investigated as innovative field grading and control techniques for gas insulated power apparatus such as gas insulated switchgears (GIS) and gas insulated transmission lines (GIL). We have so far verified that FGM with the spatial permittivity distribution can control the electric field distribution around

Transient Temperature Distribution in Composites with Layers of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs)
Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2005Solution to the non-homogeneous problem of transient heat conduction in a composite medium consisting of a number of parallel layers of functionally graded materials (FGMs) is presented. A generalized program (algorithm) is developed which can be used to obtain the time-dependent temperature profile through laminates having discrete layers of FGMs.
