Functionally Graded Biomimetic Plate with Hole

43rd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2002
In this paper, we address the problem of maximizing the strength of a plate in which a circular hole is placed within a homogeneous material. We mimicked in a polyurethane plate the modulus distribution we found around a naturally occurring hole in bone by discretizing the panel into rings and matching modulus ratios (ring to given homogeneous material)

Thermomechanical Modeling of Functionally Graded Plates

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2008
In this contribution, the 3D thermomechanical behavior of functionally graded plates subjected to transverse thermal loads is investigated by means of a series of 2D finite plate elements. In the framework of the Unified Formulation developed by Carrera (2003), the governing equations for both the heat conduction problem and the resulting ...

Functionally graded plates behave like homogeneous plates

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2008
In recent years many articles concerned with the mechanics of functionally graded plates have been published. Usually new analysis methods are developed to handle the continuous variation in material properties through the thickness of the plate and extensive results are presented.

Vibration of Functionally Graded Plates

Volume 3: Dynamic Systems and Controls, Symposium on Design and Analysis of Advanced Structures, and Tribology, 2006
This article considers the free vibration of plates for which materials properties vary continuously though the thickness. First, an examination of results available in the literature led to the discovery that the natural frequencies of such functionally graded plates are proportional to those of isotropic plates.

Buckling of Laminated and Functionally Graded Plates using Radial Basis Functions

Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2012
A hyperbolic sine shear deformation theory is used for the buckling analysis of functionally graded plates, accounting for through-the-thickness deformations. The linearized buckling equations and boundary conditions are derived using Carrera's Unified Formulation and further interpolated by collocation with radial basis functions.

Analysis of functionally graded plates

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2000
Summary: Theoretical formulation, Navier's solutions of rectangular plates, and finite element models based on the third-order shear deformation plate theory are presented for the analysis of through-thickness functionally graded plates. The plates are assumed to have isotropic, two-constituent material distribution through the thickness, and the ...

Guided waves in functionally graded viscoelastic plates

Composite Structures, 2011
Abstract In this paper, a dynamic solution for the propagating viscoelastic waves in functionally graded material (FGM) plates subjected to stress-free conditions is presented in the context of the Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic theory. The FGM plate is composed of two orthotropic materials.

Blast analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract In this research, a layerwise based finite element model is presented to obtain the transient responses for functionally graded material sandwich (FGM-SW) plates under blast load. A first-order displacement field based layerwise theory with C0 continuity at layer interface has been used for the present analyses.

Thermal Vibration of Functionally Graded Circular Plates

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
Based on the nonlinear theory of von Karman plate, axisymmetric nonlinear vibration of a functionally graded circular plate with clamped boundary condition is investigated under thermal loading. It is assumed that the mechanical and thermal properties of functionally graded materials vary continuously through the thickness of the plate and obey a ...
