Near-Infrared Fundamental Plane of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: green, 1997
Near-infrared (2.2 $ m$) observations of a sample of 48 elliptical galaxies in the Coma cluster have been carried out and used to study the near-ir fundamental plane (FP) of ellipticals in this cluster. An rms scatter of 0.072 dex was found for this relation, similar to that of its optical counterpart, using the same sample of galaxies.

The effect of environment on the fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2014
AbstractWe study the effect of environment to fundamental relation of elliptical galaxies. We find that superclusters, filaments and groups give noticeable effect to slope of velocity dispersions while little to luminosity slope.

Luminosity dependence in the Fundamental Plane projections of elliptical galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2007
We analyze the fundamental plane projections of elliptical galaxies as a function of luminosity, using a sample of approximately 80,000 galaxies drawn from Data Release 4 (DR4) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We separate brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) from our main sample and reanalyze their photometry due to a problem with the default ...

The Near-Infrared Fundamental Plane of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 1995
We present results from a near-infrared $K$-band imaging survey of 59 elliptical galaxies in five nearby clusters. We measure photometric parameters for each galaxy using surface photometry and draw velocity dispersions from the literature. Three observables define a near-infrared Fundamental Plane (FP) of elliptical galaxies with $R_e \propto ^{1.44\

Constraining theories of gravity by fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies [PDF]

open access: greenPhysics of the Dark Universe, 2020
We show that fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies can be used to obtain observational constraints on metric theories of gravity. Being it connected to global properties of ellipticals, it can fix parameters of modified gravity. Specifically, we use fundamental plane to constrain modified theories of gravity with Yukawa-like corrections which ...

On the origin of dwarf elliptical galaxies: the fundamental plane [PDF]

open access: bronzeAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2008
Early-type dwarf galaxies are the most common type of galaxies observed in the Universe. The origin of this kind of systems is still not well understood. The aim of this paper is to investigate whether the different locations of dwarf galaxies with respect to ellipticals in the face-on view of the fundamental plane could be due to the transformation of
