Clues on regularity in the structure and kinematics of elliptical galaxies from self-consistent hydrodynamical simulations: the dynamical Fundamental Plane [PDF]
[Abridged] We have analysed the parameters characterising the mass, size and velocity dispersion both at the baryonic scale and at the halo scales of two samples of relaxed elliptical-like-objects (ELOs) identified, at z=0, in a set of self-consistent hydrodynamical simulations operating in the context of a concordance cosmological model.

The Tilt of the Fundamental Plane of Elliptical Galaxies: Dynamical and Structural Effects [PDF]
We explore several structural and dynamical effects on the projected velocity dispersion as possible causes of the fundamental plane (FP) tilt of elliptical galaxies (Ciotti, Lanzoni & Renzini, 1995). Specifically, we determine the size of the systematic trend along the FP in the orbital radial anisotropy, in the dark matter (DM) content and ...

Radial orbital anisotropy and the Fundamental Plane of elliptical galaxies [PDF]
The existence of the Fundamental Plane (FP) imposes strong constraints on the structure and dynamics of elliptical galaxies, and thus contains important information on the processes of their formation and evolution. Here we focus on the relations between the FP thinness and tilt and the amount of radial orbital anisotropy.

The Fundamental Plane of Cluster Elliptical Galaxies at z = 1.25 [PDF]
Using deep Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging and Very Large Telescope FOcal Reducer/low dispersion Spectrograph 2 spectra, we determined the velocity dispersions, effective radii, and surface brightnesses for four early-type galaxies in the z = 1.237 cluster RDCS 1252.9-2927. All four galaxies are massive, greater than 1011 M☉.

Mergers between elliptical galaxies and the thickening of the Fundamental Plane [PDF]
We have carried out computer simulations to study the effect of merging on the fundamental plane (FP) relation. Initially, systems are spherical Jaffe models following a simple scaling relation (M/R_e^2 = constant). They have been put on the FP by imposing different M/L values. Various orbital characteristics have been considered. Our results show that

A Fundamental Plane Relation for the X-Ray Gas in Normal Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]
We report on the discovery of a new correlation between global parameters of the hot interstellar gas in elliptical galaxies. We reanalyze archival Chandra data for 30 normal early-type systems, removing the contributions of resolved and unresolved point sources to reveal the X-ray morphology of the hot gas. We determine the half-light radius, R_X, and

Elliptical Galaxies Since z ~ 1.5: The Evolution of The Fundamental Planes [PDF]
AbstractWe use a set of hydrodynamical, self consistent simulations operating in the context of a concordance cosmological model where relaxed elliptical-like objects (ELOs) were identified at different redshifts. ELOs at different redshift are well described by the Sérsic (1968) function.

Dynamical Models of Elliptical Galaxies inz = 0.5 Clusters. II. Mass‐to‐Light Ratio Evolution without Fundamental Plane Assumptions [PDF]
We study M/L evolution of early-type galaxies using dynamical modeling of resolved internal kinematics. This makes fewer assumptions than Fundamental Plane (FP) studies and provides a powerful new approach for studying galaxy evolution. We focus on the sample of 25 galaxies in clusters at z=0.5 modeled in Paper I.
