Radial Kinematics of Isolated Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Ellipticals in very low density environments are extremely rare but hold important clues about galaxy formation and evolution. In this paper we continue our study of isolated elliptical galaxies, presenting results on the radial stellar kinematics for 13 isolated early-type galaxies.

Volume measurement of microparticles using SEM photogrammetry and 3‐D reconstruction

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper, we introduce a method for volume measurement of microparticles that includes scanning electron microscope photogrammetry with 3‐D model construction. Our results show that our method limits the volume uncertainty to ±10%, which is a significant improvement compared to previous methods (which likely overestimated volume by 100 ...

The Photometric Plane of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMon.Not.Roy.Astron.Soc. v.334, p.859 (2002), 2002
The Sersic r^(1/n) index n of an elliptical galaxy (or bulge) has recently been shown to correlate strongly (r=0.8) with a galaxy's central velocity dispersion. This index could therefore prove extremely useful and cost-effective (in terms of both telescope time and data reduction) for many fields of extragalactic research.

The Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere‐Ground Responses to the May 2024 Super Solar Storm

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Earth suffered the attack of the strongest geomagnetic storm in the last 20 years (Kp = 9, Dst∼ ${\sim} $ −400 nT) occurred on 11 May 2024. Taking advantage of the LEO multi‐parameter CSES satellite (launched in 2018) with a large inclination angle 97° $97{}^{\circ}$, with the joint observations of NOAA and GOES, we present a comprehensive ...

Looking at the Fundamental Plane through a gravitational lens [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.648:L17-L20,2006, 2006
We consider the Fundamental Plane of elliptical galaxies lensed by the gravitational field of a massive deflector (typically, a cluster of galaxies). We show that the Fundamental Plane relation provides a straightforward measurement of the projected mass distribution of the lens with a typical accuracy of ~0.15 in the dimensionless column density kappa.

The Quorum Sensing Regulated sRNA Lrs1 Is Involved in the Adaptation to Low Iron in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2025.
The quorum sensing regulated sRNA Lrs1 participates in the adaptation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in low iron by downregulating the siderophore pyochelin, the Quorum Sensing system PQS, and its associated virulence factor phenazines. ABSTRACT Iron is an essential nutrient for microbial growth. The opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa can survive

A Systematic Review of Alternative Host Species of Phytophthora erythroseptica, the Major Causal Agent of Pink Rot of Potato

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 3, Page 605-640, April 2025.
The literature cites many alternative hosts of Phytophthora erythroseptica. However, evidence of host status is often insufficient, thus a polyphasic approach (morphological, molecular, histological and pathogenicity) is required. ABSTRACT Most published studies of Phytophthora erythroseptica, the major causal agent of pink rot of potato, have focused ...

The Fundamental Plane and merger scenario I. Star formation history of galaxy mergers and origin of the Fundamental Plane [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We perform numerical simulations of galaxy mergers between star-forming and gas-rich spirals in order to explore the origin of the Fundamental Plane (FP) of elliptical galaxies. We consider particularly that the origin of the slope of the FP is essentially due to the non-homology in structure and kinematics of elliptical galaxies and accordingly ...

Spectroscopic Constraints on the Stellar Population of Elliptical Galaxies in the Coma Cluster [PDF]

open access: yesMon.Not.Roy.Astron.Soc. 316 (2000) 507, 2000
Near-IR spectra for a sample of 31 elliptical galaxies in the Coma cluster are obtained. The galaxies are selected to be ellipticals (no lenticulars), with a large spatial distribution, covering both the core and outskirt of the cluster (ie. corresponding to regions with large density contrasts).

Commodity risk assessment of Populus alba, Populus nigra and Populus tremula plants from the UK

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Populus alba, Populus nigra and ...
