The fundamental lemma and the Hitchin fibration [after Ngo Bao Chau] [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
This article is a Bourbaki seminar report on Ngo Bao Chau's proof of the fundamental lemma. About thirty years ago, R. P. Langlands conjectured a collection of identities to hold among integrals over conjugacy classes in reductive groups. Ngo Bao Chau has proved these identities (collectively called the fundamental lemma) by interpreting the integrals ...

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

The relationship of spatial visualization ability and number representation: evidence from multiple tasks

open access: yesBMC Psychology
It is well established in the literature that the relation of spatial ability and the number representation, but the intrinsic relation of spatial visualization ability and number representation are not well understood.

Analysis and Design of the Knowledge Representation for the Implementation of a Distributed Reasoning

open access: yesRevista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones, 2011
The representation of knowledge and the reasoning comprise fundamental parts of the design of an expert system. In the case under study the real world is represented by the different events that can arise in the operation of a nuclear plant. These events

Cuspidal $\ell$-modular representations of $p$-adic classical groups [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
For a classical group over a non-archimedean local field of odd residual characteristic p, we construct all cuspidal representations over an arbitrary algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p, as representations induced from a cuspidal type.

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

Flat connections in three-manifolds and classical Chern–Simons invariant

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2017
A general method for the construction of smooth flat connections on 3-manifolds is introduced. The procedure is strictly connected with the deduction of the fundamental group of a manifold M by means of a Heegaard splitting presentation of M.

Projective representations of fundamental groups of quasiprojective varieties: a realization and a lifting result [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We discuss two results about projective representations of fundamental groups of quasiprojective varieties. The first is a realization result which, under a nonresonance assumption, allows to realize such representations as monodromy representations of flat projective logarithmic connections. The second is a lifting result: any representation as above,
