Signal representation and approximation–fundamental limits
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 2007AbstractThe expansion of functions in orthonormal bases is an important analytical and practical instrument in many different areas such as in signal processing, in system and information theory and in communications. However, the selection of an optimal basis is a non‐trivial task in general and depends strongly on the performance measure of the ...

Behavior is more fundamental than representations
Proceedings of 32nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002An input-output system is a relation between two function spaces. The classical input-output framework treats a system as a map between function spaces. The graph of this map, which is the collection of all compatible input-output pairs, constitutes the behavior of the system.

Hirota equations for fundamental representations of an(1)
Physics Letters A, 1990Abstract In a previous paper the m -principal fundamental representations of gl ∞ were introduced. The Hirota equations associated with the fundamental representations were also derived. They turn out to be the same as the equations previously obtained by Date et al. and associated with the matrix realisation of gl ∞ denoted by gl( m ∞).

Fundamentals of representation I: A traditional philosophy
Information & Communications Technology Law, 1996Abstract Assumptions about the nature of representation can be expected to have considerable influence on the way in which the project of computational representation is approached. This paper examines a traditional philosophy of representation which has driven much of the project up to now.

New fundamental parameters for attitude representation
Advances in Space Research, 2017Abstract A new attitude parameter set is developed to clarify the geometry of combining finite rotations in a rotational sequence and in combining infinitesimal angular increments generated by angular rate. The resulting parameter set of six Pivot Parameters represents a rotation as a great circle arc on a unit sphere that can be located at any ...

Fundamentals of Guidelines for Visual Representation of Information
2008Information visualization is a computer-assisted method for data representation. By processing the information into a visual framework, it enables the user to observe, browse, receive and understand information. Information visualization is a new research field that concentrates on using visualizing techniques towards helping people understand and ...

Some fundamental issues in knowledge representation
1982Fundamental issues of “knowledge representation” appear to be rather obscured by a terminological confusion prevailing in and across subfields of computer science involved, namely Artificial Intelligence, Date Bases, and Programming Languages. Accordingly, the different understanding of “knowledge representation” in these areas is investigated ...
