The AVR4 Elicitor Protein of Cladosporium fulvum Binds to Fungal Components with High Affinity

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2002
The interaction between tomato and the fungal pathogen Cladosporium fulvum complies with the gene-for-gene system. Strains of C. fulvum that produce race-specific elicitor AVR4 induce a hypersensitive response, leading to resistance, in tomato plants ...

Calcium-mediated perception and defense responses activated in plant cells by metabolite mixtures secreted by the biocontrol fungus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background: Calcium is commonly involved as intracellular messenger in the transduction by plants of a wide range of biotic stimuli, including signals from pathogenic and symbiotic fungi. Trichoderma spp.

Harnessing Free Radical Scavenging Potential of Caffeic Acid as a Nutraceutical—A Review

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Caffeic acid has emerged as a promising bioactive molecule with multiple pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti‐inflammatory, organ protective properties and metal‐chelating ability. This review emphasizes the dietary sources, structural characteristic, molecular mechanism underlying health promoting effects of caffeic ...

Elevated yield of Monacolin K in Monascus purpureus by fungal elicitor and mutagenesis of UV and LiCl

open access: yesBiological Research, 2011
In China, Monascus spp., a traditional fungus used in fermentation, is used as a natural food additive. Monascus spp. can produce a secondary metabolite, monacolin K namely, which is proven to be a cholesterol-lowering and hypotensive agent.

Salicylic acid as an effective elicitor for improved taxol production in endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis microspora.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Salicylic acid (SA) is an effective elicitor to increase taxol production in Pestalotiopsis microspora. Addition of SA at the concentration of 300 μM yielded taxol 625.47 μg L-1, 45- fold higher than that of the control.

Diterpenoid Diversity across Land Plants

open access: yesHelvetica Chimica Acta, EarlyView.
Here we bridge the knowledge of diterpene chemical diversity, biosynthesis, and evolution from nonvascular mosses and liverworts to that known from vascular plants. ABSTRACT The diverse array of diterpenoid natural products stems from the ease of manipulating the promiscuity of diterpene cyclases.

A large‐scale single‐cell transcriptomic atlas indicates the immune panorama of influenza A infection

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
The study presents a large‐scale single‐cell transcriptomic atlas profiling over 612,010 peripheral immune cells from 97 individuals to decode the heterogeneity of influenza infection. These findings indicate a fundamental immune dichotomy determining clinical trajectories: a protective, monocyte‐centric antiviral state in mild disease versus a ...

The Receptor-Like Kinase SERK3/BAK1 Is Required for Basal Resistance against the Late Blight Pathogen Phytophthora infestans in Nicotiana benthamiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND The filamentous oomycete plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans causes late blight, an economically important disease, on members of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), such as the crop plants potato and tomato.

Botanical treatment enhances biochemical responses in enset (Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesman) clones

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Bacterial wilt of enset (Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesman) is a severe disease caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum, resulting in complete crop failure and considerable damage. This study assessed the biochemical responses of two enset clones (one resistant and one susceptible) when inoculated with the pathogen and ...
