Fungal infection affects sexual signalling and mate choice in the sugarcane borer
Fungus‐infected Diatraea saccharalis females exhibit enhanced attractiveness to males in wind tunnel assays. Fungal infection alters the pheromone profile of females, increasing the relative abundance of Z9‐16: Ald, a minor but behaviourally active component of the species' sex pheromone blend.

Microbiome‐mediated immunity: Limited support from the gazelle dung beetle
Digitonthophagus gazella rely on a maternally inherited microbiome passed across generations via a maternal faecal pellet called the pedestal. We experimentally manipulated the presence of the pedestal, providing it to some individuals while withholding it from others to determine how pedestal microbiota may affect beetle immune potential.

The depth and breadth of capitalism at the Cape
Abstract Limited liability company legislation was introduced to the Cape Colony in 1861. An amendment in 1892 led to wider adoption, expanding and diversifying the capital market. Cyclic β‐1,2‐glucan (CβG)‐associated solute‐binding protein of type I ABC transporter was originally identified in Chloroflexus aurantiacus, a phototrophic bacterium. Crystal structures in complex with CβGs revealed unique binding modes that are fundamentally distinct from that of the short β‐1,2‐glucooligosaccharides‐binding protein.

In lignin peroxidase and versatile peroxidase, low FRET from buried Trp to heme promotes long‐range electron transfer (LRET) from substrate to heme. This efficient electron flow is facilitated by reduced FRET competition. This mechanism likely evolved to enable the effective degradation of bulky, high‐redox‐potential lignin that cannot reach the enzyme'
