Antifouling capacity of substrate materials and their effects on settlement and post‐settlement survival of Acropora palmata and Orbicella faveolata

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction In coral reef restoration, sexual reproduction is a key methodology to enhance coral population recovery. However, post‐settlement survival remains a major bottleneck, as spat are particularly vulnerable to competition with fouling organisms.

Spore traits mediate disturbance effects on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community composition and mutualisms

open access: yesEcology, 2023
AbstractTrait‐based approaches in ecology are powerful tools for understanding how organisms interact with their environment. These approaches show particular promise in disturbance and community ecology contexts for understanding how disturbances like prescribed fire and bison grazing influence interactions between mutualists like arbuscular ...

FUNGAL VIRAL MUTUALISM MODERATED BY PLOIDY [PDF]

open access: yesEvolution; International Journal of Organic Evolution, 2008
Endosymbionts and their hosts have inherently ambiguous relationships as symbionts typically depend upon their hosts for shelter, nutrition, and reproduction. Endosymbionts can acquire these needs by two alternative strategies: exploitation and cooperation. Parasites exploit hosts to advance their own reproduction at the cost of host fitness.
