5-Hydroxymethylfurfural content in foodstuffs determined by micellar electrokinetic chromatography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) has been applied for the determination of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural in several foodstuffs. A 75 mM phosphate buffer solution at pH 8.0 containing 100 mM sodium dodecylsulfate was used as background electrolyte (

3,9-Di-2-furyl-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5.5]undecane

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2008
The title compound, C15H16O6, was prepared by reaction of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol with 2-furaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid at room temperature. The asymmetric unit contains two crystallographically independent molecules.

Detection of 2-Furaldehyde in Milk by MIP-Based POF Chips Combined with an SPR-POF Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2022
An innovative optical-chemical sensor has been used to detect the 2-furaldehyde (2-FAL) in milk. The proposed sensing approach exploits the refractive index changing in a microstructured chip based on a plastic optical fiber (POF) with orthogonal micro ...

Photoisomerization and Photochemistry of Matrix-Isolated 3-Furaldehyde [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2010
3-Furaldehyde (3FA) was isolated in an argon matrix at 12 K and studied using FTIR spectroscopy and quantum chemistry. The molecule has two conformers, with trans and cis orientation of the O=C-C=C dihedral angle. At the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory, the trans form was computed to be ca. 4 kJ mol(-1) more stable than the cis form.

Ligand‐Intercalated MOFs Enable Reaction‐Pathway Engineering in Biomass Electrooxidation via Steric and π‐Electronic Microenvironment Control

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Through ligand length and π‐electron density modulation, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) improve mass transport and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), thus improving biomass electrooxidation. ABSTRACT Controlling reaction pathways in electrocatalytic biomass upgrading remains challenging because mass transport, substrate adsorption, and elementary kinetics ...
