Some Aspects about the Refractory Lining Wear in Furnaces

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2007
For melting cast iron, carbon steel, copper and copper alloys the quartzite is still one of the most used lining material and the most cost effective as well. The silica lining has to be replaced frequently due to the wear.

A fundamental study on recycling of wastes from stainless steel plants via the electric arc furnace

open access: yes, 2000
Waste briquettes of high carbon contents have been smelted using an induction furnace in tests to gain fundamental information for EAF operations of the briquette smelting.

Barrier‐Assisted Plasma Doping for Spatially Selective Resistance Engineering in MoS2 Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Barrier‐assisted NH3 plasma doping enables damage‐free, spatially selective carrier modulation in monolayer MoS2 transistors. An ultrathin pV3D3/Al2O3 protective‐dielectric stack acts as a chemical filter that allows NHx radicals to reach the MoS2 surface while blocking plasma damage. This process achieves a high electron concentration of 4.3 × 1013 cm−

Gold‐Stabilized Copper Enables Anodic Hydrogen Evolution for Ultralow‐Voltage CO‐to‐Ethylene Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Gold‐stabilized copper suppresses hydroxide‐driven deactivation during anodic hydrogen evolution from furfural. Pairing this low‐potential anode with CO‐to‐ethylene electroreduction enables sub‐1 V operation at 400 mA cm−2, high single‐pass CO conversion, and co‐production of ethylene, furoic acid, and a separate hydrogen stream.

Closed‐Loop Solid‐State Synthesis Planning for Materials Discovery With Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Leveraging literature data, we build a large‐language‐model‐driven workflow that extracts synthesis steps from 4407 papers, retrieves similar precedents, and generates candidate solid‐state synthesis recipes. The system benchmarks against ground‐truth and then operates in a closed loop with experiments to synthesize oxy‐selenide electrolyte materials ...

Direct Growth of 2D Bilayers on Au(111) for Low‐Coercive Sliding Ferroelectricity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled CVD growth of stacking‐defined bilayer ReS2 on Au(111) enables parallel‐stacked bilayers with intrinsic sliding ferroelectricity, a strong piezoelectric response, and an ultralow coercive voltage. Atomic‐resolution imaging and in situ measurements further reveal the decisive role of clean interfaces in achieving low‐barrier ferroelectric ...

A review of mild combustion and open furnace design consideration

open access: yes, 2012
Combustion is still very important to generate energy. Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion is one of the best new technologies for clean and efficient combustion.

Defect‐Templated Phase Engineering in Atomically Thin Metals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene defects are transformed from passive imperfections into programmable templates for phase‐selective growth of atomically thin silver. Plasma‐generated boundary defects favor Ag(1), whereas sp3‐rich zero‐layer graphene promotes Ag(2). This defect‐directed intercalation links local graphene chemistry to crystalline phase, electronic structure ...

Ion Concentration and Voltage Imaging With Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate reversible switching between the fluorescent NV0 and the dark NV+ state, in sub‐30 nm FNDs via surface oxidation and hydrogenation, respectively. In an electrochemical cell, we show that the fluorescence from hydrogenated particles enables all‐optical imaging of voltages and ion concentrations at the micrometer scale.
