Reprocessing of Uranium Fuels by Fused Salt Electrolysis
Purification of U by fused salt electrolysis is one method of pyrometallurgically reprocessing irradiated nuclear fuel. In the present study, dummy spent fuel constituted of U alloys containing Zr and Mo to simulate fission products were used for the anode. Molten zinc was chosen for cathode, for its adaptability to continuous operation.

CORROSION STUDIES FOR A FUSED SALT-LIQUID METAL EXTRACTION PROCESS FOR THE LIQUID METAL FUEL REACTOR [PDF]
Corrosion screening tests were carried out on potential materials of construction for use in a fused salt-liquid metal extraction process plant. The corrodents of interest were NaCl--KCl-- MgCl/sub 2/ eutectic, LiCl--KCl eutectic, Bi-- U fuel, and BiCl/sub 3/, either separately or in various combinations.

THERMODYNAMICS IN THE FUSED SALT DISSOLUTION PROCESS FOR ZIRCONIUM FUEL [PDF]
A discussion is given of the role of thermodynamics in the fused-salt volatility process, particularly as it applies to oxidation-reduction reactions affecting zirconium, uranium, nickel, chromium, ruthenium, and other elements present in the hydrofluorination head-end step. (auth)

FUEL CYCLE COSTS IN A GRAPHITE MODERATED U$sup 235$-Th FUELED FUSED SALT REACTOR [PDF]
A fuel-cycle economic study was made for a 315-Mw(e) graphite-moderated U/sup 235/-Th-fueled fused-salt reactor. Fuel cycle costs of approximately 1.3 mills/kwh may be possible for such reactors when reprocessed for U/sup 233/ and U/ sup 235/ recover y at the end of a 9-year cycle.

FUEL CYCLE COSTS IN A GRAPHITE MODERATED SLIGHTLY ENRICHED FUSED SALT REACTOR [PDF]
A fuel cycle economic study has been made for a 315Mwe graphite- moderated slightly enriched fused-salt reactor. Fuel cycle costs of less than 1.5 mills may be possible for such reactors operating on a ten-year cycle even when the fuel is discarded at the end of the cycle.
