Effect of Binder on Physical Properties of Extruded Activated Carbon and Its Application to Levofloxacin Adsorption

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bamboo charcoal–based extruded activated carbons were prepared via molding, pre‐oxidation, carbonization, and steam activation, with coal tar, phenolic resin, and their mixtures employed as binders based on practical availability and technical feasibility. This study focused on the regulatory effects of binders on the mechanical properties and

Paleopathology of a putative colossosaurian caudal vertebra (Neosauropoda: Titanosauria) from the Presidente Prudente Formation, Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Studies investigating paleopathologies in sauropods remain scarce despite their relative abundance in the fossil record. In this study we report new occurrence of paleopathological features, corresponding to a neoplasm found in a middle caudal vertebra (MCT.R.2120) of an advanced titanosaur from the Presidente Prudente Formation (Bauru Basin ...

Porous fused silica ceramics prepared by gelcasting using multigrade fused silica powders

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2020
Abstract Porous fused silica ceramics were successfully prepared by gelcasting using N, N–dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) as gelling agent and multigrade powders as starting materials. The results suggest that the ratio of fine–grained to coarse–grained mixed powders, solid loading and sintering temperature were highly correlated with microstructure and ...

Fatigue limit in fused silica

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2001
Abstract The threshold stress intensity factor for sub-critical crack growth in fused silica was measured using the interrupted static fatigue (ISF) test and from observations of indentation crack growth under load. Good agreement was obtained between the two techniques with values of 0.31–0.34 MPa√m and 0.30±0.02 MPa√m, respectively.

Drie of fused silica

2013 IEEE 26th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2013
This paper reports detailed characterization results of deep reactive ion etching of fused silica with three different masking materials: single-crystal Si, negative photoresist KMPR and SU-8. With an optimized etch recipe, KMPR and SU-8 show higher effective mask selectivity, are easier to integrate and remove than Si, making them better masks for ...

Metrology of fused silica

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
In over 100 years of quartz glass fabrication, the applications and the optical requirements for this type of optical material have significantly changed. Applications like spectroscopy, UV flash lamps, the Apollo missions as well as the growth in UV and IR applications have directed quartz glass development towards new products, technologies or ...

High-efficiency fused-silica transmission gratings

Optics Letters, 1997
We describe the design, fabrication, and performance of high-efficiency transmission gratings fabricated in bulk fused silica for use in high-power ultraviolet laser systems. The gratings exhibit a diffraction efficiency of 94% in order m=-1 and a damage threshold greater than 13>J/cm( 2) for 3-ns pulses at 351 nm.

High-efficiency fused-silica reflection grism

Applied Optics, 2014
A fused-silica reflection grism (combination of grating and prism) based on the phenomenon of total internal reflection (TIR), and used in the -1st order, is designed and fabricated. The grism is etched directly into the fused-silica prism, which greatly facilitates the use of the TIR grating as no other angle coupling devices are involved. The grating

Carbon‐doped fused silica glass

International Journal of Applied Glass Science, 2020
Abstract Carbon‐doped fused silica glass is fabricated by consolidating zinc stearate‐doped porous silica soot blank. The carbon doping concentration is tunable and a maximum of ~0.3 wt% carbon can be incorporated into densified silica.

Very deep fused silica etching

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Fabrication processes for wet chemical and dry etching of hollow capillary leaky optical waveguides in high-purity fused silica for extended path cells for improved optical detection in analytical chemistry are described. We focus on microstructures with etch depths on the order of 80 μm.
