Although catalyzed by different proteins, the energy barriers for lipid bilayer fusion in exocytosis, viral fusion, and trafficking seem to be the same as those for the fusion of protein-free phospholipid membranes. To minimize this energy, fusion will proceed through a minimal number of lipid molecules, probably localized in bent non-bilayer ...

CONTROL OF FUSION IN FUSION SYSTEMS
Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, 2006Let P be a p-group and [Formula: see text] a fusion system on P. The aim of this paper is to give necessary and sufficient conditions on a subgroup Q of P for the normalizer [Formula: see text] to be [Formula: see text] itself. This generalizes a result of Gilotti and Serena on finite groups.

Cell fusion and nuclear fusion in plants
Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 2016Eukaryotic cells are surrounded by a plasma membrane and have a large nucleus containing the genomic DNA, which is enclosed by a nuclear envelope consisting of the outer and inner nuclear membranes. Although these membranes maintain the identity of cells, they sometimes fuse to each other, such as to produce a zygote during sexual reproduction or to ...

A case of splenogonadal fusion of the discontinuous type in a 7-year-old boy is reported. The literature is reviewed and the common clinical features of the malformation are discussed. The condition should be considered in the differential diagnosis of scrotal tumours.

Fusion of the testis with adrenal remnants is a relatively common incidental finding during orchidopexy. Splenogonadal fusion has been described in several cases. Herein the authors report a case of hepatogonadal fusion. To their knowledge, this is the first such case in the literature.

What if you could help solve the nuclear waste problem and at the same time give fusion research a new raison d'etre? A trio of physicists at the University of Texas at Austin have dreamed up a trick to pair nuclear fusion and fission in a way they think could open more promising futures for both technologies.

The factors involved in the regulation of biological membrane fusion and models proposed for the molecular mechanism of biomembrane fusion are reviewed. The results obtained in model systems are critically discussed in the light of the known properties of biomembranes and characteristics of biomembrane fusion.

Splenogonadal fusion is a rare condition wherein splenic tissue is found attached to or within the testis. There are two anatomic types: continuous and discontinuous. We report a case of splenogonadal fusion that presented in an adult man with bilateral cryptorchid testes.
