Abstract In the present work, we examine a beam of neutrons incident on a layered array of single-crystal Li 6 D , for possible fusion interactions. Two processes are examined: relatively high-energy neutron processes and low energy, ‘ 1 / v ’ neutron processes.

This thesis addresses the application of fusion as a powerful source of energetic neutrons. The conditions for maximising fusion power density, Pf, in a neutral beam fuelled plasma are determined and used to inform a high Pf device optimisation procedure. Restrictions on the externally applied power, not previously considered, are shown to be a crucial

Intense fusion neutron sources
Plasma Physics Reports, 2010The review describes physical principles underlying efficient production of free neutrons, up-to-date possibilities and prospects of creating fission and fusion neutron sources with intensities of 1015–1021 neutrons/s, and schemes of production and application of neutrons in fusion-fission hybrid systems.

Fusion neutron disordering of CU3AU
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1981Abstract We have measured the disordering rate of highly-ordered Cu3Au (S = .99) at 4 K during irradiation with 14.8 MeV neutrons at RTNS-II. The rate was measured by monitoring changes in resistivity, which can be related to the degree of order by ρ(s) = (ρ(0) 3- ρ(1) (1-s2) + ρ(1) where S is the long-range order parameter and ρ is the sample ...

Neutronics on inertial fusion reactors
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2000Abstract Neutrons produced in conceptual high gain targets of inertial fusion (IFE) reactors can contribute to the dynamics of the DT fuel burnup, and will emerge after some slowing down in the capsule with an energy spectrum depending on the target design and burnup conditions.

Neutron calorimeter as a fusion diagnostic
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1986A calorimeter is described which is applicable as a fusion neutron diagnostic. The device has the following distinct advantages: low sensitivity to thermal neutrons, large dynamic range, small mass resulting in fair time resolution, small physical size, independent calibration, little shielding required, no heat loss to surroundings, and low cost.

Fusion neutron irradiation of TiC
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1985Abstract In situ measurement of electrical resistivity of TiC x (x = 0.56, 0.66 and 0.72) was done at liquid helium temperature under fusion (14 MeV) neutrons up to 1.92 × 10 21 n/m 2 . The resistivity increased almost linearly with the neutron dose, except at the beginning of the irradiation runs.

Neutronic model of a fusion neutron source
2016The MCNPX numerical code has been used to model a fusion neutron source based on a combined stellaratormirror trap. Calculation results for the neutron spectrum near the inner wall and radial leakage of neutrons through the mantle surface of the fusion neutron source are presented.

Role of neutrons in the fusion of nuclei
Physics of Atomic Nuclei, 2007The problem of a quantum-mechanical description of a near-barrier fusion of heavy nuclei under conditions of a strong coupling of their relative motion to neutron degrees of freedom is studied. New mutually complementing efficient models employing the multidimensional time-dependent Schrodinger equation and methods for numerically solving the problems ...

Neutronics Experiments of Fusion Systems
2019Since the 1950 s, with the development of fusion systems, many fusion neutron source facilities have been built around the world. A series of experiments have been performed to support the development of fusion systems with these facilities that aim to validate the reliability of neutronics design, the precision of nuclear data and the correctness of ...
