The paper presents notion of horizontal membership function (HMF) and based on it fuzzy, relative distance measure (fuzzy RDM) arithmetic that is compared with standard fuzzy arithmetic (SF arithmetic). Fuzzy RDM-arithmetic possess such mathematical properties which allow for achieving complete fuzzy solution sets of problems, whereas SF-arithmetic, in

A New Fuzzy Arithmetic for Discrete Fuzzy Numbers
Fourth International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery (FSKD 2007), 2007In this paper, using the representations of discrete fuzzy numbers, we give a new kind of operations of addition and multiplication for discrete fuzzy numbers. Then, we show that the new addition and multiplication keep the closeness of the operation, so they get over the defect that the usual addition and multiplication does not keep the closeness of ...

Extension of the Fuzzy Database with Fuzzy Arithmetic
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1983Abstract The fuzzy relational database model originated by the authors permits fuzzy domain values from a discrete, finite universe. The model is extended here by demonstrating that fuzzy numbers may be employed as domain values without loss of consistency with respect to representation or the relational algebra.

Inclusion principle of fuzzy arithmetic results
Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2022The paper presents the inclusion principle of fuzzy arithmetic results. This principle explains what features should have the span of the result of calculations realized with use of the fuzzy arithmetic. If some kind of fuzzy arithmetic provides results that do not comply with this principle, it means that the arithmetic has incomplete reliability, has

Fuzzy Logic and Arithmetical Hierarchy III
Studia Logica, 1997[For Part I see Fuzzy Sets Syst. 73, No. 3, 359-363 (1995; Zbl 0857.03011).] Fuzzy logic RQL here means an extension of Łukasiewicz's infinite-valued first-order logic by graded notions of provability and of consequence together with (truth degree) constants for all rationals of the truth degree set \([0,1]\).

Approximate fuzzy arithmetic operations using monotonic interpolations
We suggest the use of piecewise monotonic interpolations to approximate and represent a fuzzy number (or interval) and to derive a procedure to control the absolute error associated to the arithmetic operations (+,-,⋅,:) between fuzzy numbers, in ...

On constrained fuzzy arithmetic
Proceedings of IEEE 5th International Fuzzy Systems, 2002Basic principles of constrained fuzzy arithmetic are introduced as generalizations of the usual (unconstrained) fuzzy arithmetic. It is shown that these principles are applicable to both crisp and fuzzy constraints. The significance of constrained fuzzy arithmetic is illustrated by a few simple examples.
