Quantification of horizontal force for the EXER-GENIE® resisted sprint training device

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living, 2023
Sport performance coaches use a range of modalities to apply a horizontal force (Fh) to athletes during resisted sprint training (RST). These modalities include parachutes, weighted vests, pulley devices, motored tethered devices, and, most notably ...

GENIE: a software package for gene-gene interaction analysis in genetic association studies using multiple GPU or CPU cores

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2011
Background Gene-gene interaction in genetic association studies is computationally intensive when a large number of SNPs are involved. Most of the latest Central Processing Units (CPUs) have multiple cores, whereas Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) also ...

Clean synthesis of adipic acid from cyclohexene in microemulsions with stearyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride as surfactant: From the laboratory to bench scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Adipic acid, HOOC(CH2)4COOH, is a white crystalline solid used primarily in the manufacture of nylon-6,6 polyamide. In industry, adipic acid is mainly produced by oxidation of cyclohexane with air and nitric acidfollowing a homogeneous two-step route ...

Inter-organizational collaboration during emergency response: A case study of 2016’s Hurricane Matthew in Haiti

open access: yesSmart Cities and Regional Development Journal, 2022
This paper aims at exploring inter-organizational collaboration during emergency response at local level. Specifically, this paper analyzes collaborations between public, private, and non-governmental organizations that evolved in response to 2016 ...

Experimental validation of a fluid dynamics based model of the UF Falcon concentrator in the ultrafine range [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The process of separating ultrafine particles, say below 80 μm, on the basis of density is a true technical challenge. Indeed, the separation process itself becomes very much size dependent with such fine particles, so that large enough density ...

Electrochemical extraction of europium from molten fluoride media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This work concerns the extraction of europium from molten fluoride media. Two electrochemical ways have been examined: (i) the use of a reactive cathode made of copper and (ii) the co-deposition with aluminium on inert electrode, leading to the formation

Implementation of residual nucleus de-excitations associated with proton decays in 12C based on the GENIE generator and TALYS code

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2022
We implement the de-excitation processes of residual nuclei associated with proton decays in C12 based on the GENIE generator and TALYS code. To derive the reasonable excitation energy spectra of residual nuclei B11, B10 and Be10, the default GENIE ...

Mixing characterization inside microdroplets engineered on a microcoalescer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We use a microdevice where microdroplets of reagents are generated and coalesce in a carrier continuous phase. The work focuses on the characterization of the mixing step inside the droplets, in the perspective to use them for chemical kinetic data ...

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.
