Non‐Precious Metals Enhance Hydrogen Evolution in COF/Cd0.9Cu0.1S S‐Scheme Heterojunctions: KPFM Reveals Charge Transfer Pathways

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Photocatalytic hydrogen production from water splitting is a promising strategy for sustainable and clean energy generation. However, the design of low‐cost, highly active photocatalysts remains a critical challenge. In this study, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were loaded onto the surface of Cd0.9Cu0.1S to fabricate COF/Cd0.9Cu0.1S ...

A Novel Supercapacitor with Integrated Photosensitive Electrode to Enhance Its Capacitance Under Solar Light

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
In this research we demonstrated that the energy density of supercapacitors can be enhanced at about 50% by generating extra charge through the use of a photosensitive cell coupled to the supercapacitor estructure. ABSTRACT This research reports a supercapacitor (SC) made with a photosensitive electrode (composed of LaFe0.94V0.01Mn0.05O3 (V‐LFO ...

Single‐Atom Engineering for Next Generation Rechargeable Batteries

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
Single‐atom engineering is an effective strategy for advancing rechargeable batteries by employing isolated single atoms (SAs) as active sites. This article examines how defects, spatial confinement, and coordination engineering influence the activity, stability, and charge–transfer behavior of SAs.

On‐Surface Polymerization of Bis(pyridyl)butadiyne Evidenced by Scanning Tuneling Microscopy and Application in Photocatalysis

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
This work reveals direct on‐surface photosynthesis of Poly‐bis(pyridyl)butadiyne (PBPyB) from simple BPyB precursors. Long straight 1D‐conjugated polymer wires with trans positioning of the pyridine moieties are revealed for the first time by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).

Beyond Metal Compounds: The Exclusive Role of Metallic Nanoparticles in Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
The growing demand for clean and sustainable energy solutions has generated significant interest in advanced energy storage technologies, particularly lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. With a theoretical specific capacity of 1675 mAh g−1 and an energy density of 2600 Wh kg−1, Li–S batteries offer significant advantages over traditional lithium‐ion ...
