New factor graph based multiuser detector for spectrally efficient CPM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents a new iterative multiuser detection algorithm for asynchronous spectrally-efficient M-ary continuous-phase modulation in additive white Gaussian noise. This detection algorithm is closely related to another algorithm that was recently

Testing Models of Intrinsic Brightness Variations in Type Ia Supernovae, and their Impact on Measuring Cosmological Parameters

open access: yes, 2012
For spectroscopically confirmed Type Ia supernovae we evaluate models of intrinsic brightness variations with detailed data/Monte Carlo comparisons of the dispersion in the following quantities: Hubble-diagram scatter, color difference (B-V-c) between ...

Mitochondrial Respiratory Dysfunction Is Not Correlated With Mitochondrial Genotype in Premature Aging Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
The causal relationship between random mtDNA mutations and reduced mitochondrial respiratory activity in premature aging Polgmut/mut mice remains unclear. This study shows that the abnormal mitochondrial function in Polgmut/mut mice is more closely associated with the nuclear Polg genotype than with the mtDNA genotype.

Universal features in the efficiency of ultra hot quantum Otto engines

open access: yes, 2014
We study internal work optimization over the energy levels of a generic hot quantum Otto engine. We find universal features in the efficiency that resembles the classical external power optimization over the coupling times to the thermal baths.

Behavioural Present Value Defined as Fuzzy Number – a New Approach

open access: yesFolia Oeconomica Stetinensia, 2015
The behavioural present value is defined as a fuzzy number assessed under the impact of chosen behavioural factors. The first formal model turned out to be burdened with some formal defects which are finally corrected in the presented article.

Eye makeup in Northwestern Iran at the time of the Assyrian Empire: a new kohl recipe based on manganese and graphite from Kani Koter (Iron Age III)

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Kohl was ubiquitous in ancient Egypt and the Middle East, and routinely included among the toiletries deposited in burials. For Egypt, kohl recipes are increasingly well‐studied and known to use a range of inorganic and organic ingredients. Although these are often lead‐based, manganese‐ and silicon‐rich compounds are also attested.

Numerical study of broadband spectra caused by internal shocks in magnetized relativistic jets of blazars

open access: yes, 2013
The internal-shocks scenario in relativistic jets has been used to explain the variability of blazars' outflow emission. Recent simulations have shown that the magnetic field alters the dynamics of these shocks producing a whole zoo of spectral energy ...

Active employees in the future workplace: From job crafting to selfergetic job crafting

open access: yesEuropean Management Review, EarlyView.
Abstract The job crafting theory implies, but does not explicitly present the relationship between the self and the job. To fill the gap, we theorize upon the holistic view of the self, and selfergy, a new concept reflecting the unique manner by which employees craft their jobs. Based on the principles of the self‐determination theory, we have advanced

The Effect of Preselection on the Level of Bias and Accuracy in a Broiler Breeder Population, a Simulation Study

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Many breeding programmes have to perform preselection, as genotyping and phenotyping all potential breeder candidates is often not a feasible option. There is need to understand how preselection affects the quality of the genomic estimated breeding values (EBVs) at final selection and thereby can affect genetic progress.
