Superferromagnetism in gadolinium films

Superferromagnetism is investigated using Gd films as an example. Polycrystalline films were found to split into magnetic clusters. Below the bulk Curie point TC they are ferromagnetic. Due to weakened interactions between them magnetic long-range order is established only below a critical temperature Tcr < TC.

Dysprosium-Gadolinium Exchange Interactions in Gadolinium Metal

Recent experimental results on the temperature dependence of the hyperfine field acting on dysprosium impurity nuclei in gadolinium metal are used to check the validity of the molecular field model for such systems, and to reduce the Dy–Gd exchange coupling parameter.

Gadolinium encephalopathy after intrathecal gadolinium injection.

Gadolinium-induced encephalopathy is a well documented complication due to the inadvertent entrance of a high dose of gadolinium into the intrathecal compartment. In lab animals, injecting gadolinium into the intrathecal compartment resulted in neurotoxicity and seizures.
