The Regional Languages of Scotland: Scottish Gaelic and Scots

Scottish Gaelic, or, more simply ‘Gaelic’, belongs to the Q-branch of Celtic which also includes Irish (or Irish Gaelic) and Manx Gaelic. The fact that the term Gaelic may be used in both cases goes back to a period when the language spoken in Ireland and Scotland differed but little, particularly in writing.
