Compact Binary Formation in Open Star Clusters II: Difficulty of Gaia NS formation in low-mass star clusters

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics
Gaia mission offers opportunities to search for compact binaries not involved in binary interactions (hereafter inert compact binaries), and results in the discoveries of binaries containing one black hole (BH) or one neutron star (NS), called "Gaia BHs''

Kinematics and Luminosities of Brown Dwarfs with the BDNYC group [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Due to magnitude limits, the Gaia survey will not delve as deeply into the local population of brown dwarfs as it will other stellar populations. While hundreds or thousands of brown dwarfs will be measured by Gaia, we propose a different, indirect method wherein studies using Gaia data will help teach us about brown dwarfs: Identifying moving groups ...

Diagnostic image‐based treatment planning for online adaptive ultra‐hypofractionated prostate cancer radiotherapy with MR‐Linac

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose A new workflow was investigated for Elekta Unity MR‐Linac by removing the computed tomography (CT)‐simulation step and using diagnostic CT (DCT) for reference plan generation. Materials and methods Ten patients with ultra‐hypofractionated prostate cancer treated with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐guided adaptive radiotherapy were ...

Position‐dependent offset corrections for ring applicator reconstruction in cervical cancer brachytherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Due to the tight curvature in their design, ring applicators are usually associated with large positioning errors. The standard practice to correct for these deviations based on global offsets may not be sufficient to comply with the recommended tolerance.

Gaia: Ten Years of Surveying the Milky Way and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
On January 15 2025, the Gaia mission completed the collection of the astrometric, photometric, and spectroscopic data for about 2.5 billion celestial sources, from the solar system to the Milky Way to the distant universe. Work is ongoing to produce Gaia DR4 based on the first 5.5 years of data, with the release expected in 2026.

Surface dose analysis and dosimetric comparison of Halcyon versus Truebeam in breast cancer radiotherapy: An OSL dosimetry study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Breast cancer is a neoplastic disease with high prevalence among women. Radiotherapy is one of the principal treatment modalities for this disease, but it poses significant challenges. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the technical and dosimetric performance of conventional C‐arm linac systems and a new design, Halcyon, in the ...
