Walker Speed Adaptation in Gait Synthesis
2012This paper presents a Hidden Markov Model based walk synthesizer, where the velocities of the synthesized walks are interpolations of the walk paces present in the training database. In a first stage, Trajectory Hidden Semi Markov Models (THSMM) of gait are trained for different subjects and different velocities, using a database of motion capture walk

Increased Walking Speed and Speed Control in Exoskeleton Enabled Gait
2018 7th IEEE International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (Biorob), 2018A new exoskeleton control method has been developed to enable continuous joint motion and thereby increase walking speed and speed control in exoskeleton enabled gait. To characterize walking speed and speed control using this controller, a new assessment tool has also been proposed, the 40 Meter Walk Test (40MWT).

Gait speed and gait asymmetry in individuals with chronic idiopathic neck pain
Musculoskeletal Science and Practice, 2019Recent studies have shown that individuals with chronic idiopathic neck pain (CINP) exhibit altered spatiotemporal gait parameters. Problems arising from the neck joints and related soft tissues, and most mechanical neck pain appear asymmetric. However, whether individuals with CINP have an asymmetric gait has not been clarified. The aim was to ...

Diurnal variation in gait characteristics and transition speed
Chronobiology International, 2014The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of time-of-day on Preferred Transition Speed (PTS) and spatiotemporal organization of walking and running movements. Twelve active male subjects participated in the study (age: 27.2 ± 4.9 years; height: 177.9 ± 5.4 cm; body mass: 75.9 ± 5.86 kg). First, PTS was determined at 08:00 h and 18:00 h.

Camera speeds for normal and pathological gait analyses
Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1982Conclusive analytical evidence is provided to show that higher speed cameras and optoelectric systems are not normally necessary for higher-level biomechanical assessments of pathological gait. The evidence comes from a simple comparison of gait assessments done at 50 frames per second with that done at 25 frames per second.

Population Representative Gait Speed and Its Determinants
Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy, 2008Although gait speed is an important measure to obtain from older adults, much is uncertain about the measure. Therefore, using a large population-based sample, I sought to: (1) gain an indication of "normal" gait speed, (2) compare speed measured over 8 and 20 feet, (3) determine the relationship of several independent variables with gait speed. The ...
