Multi-messenger aspects of cosmic neutrinos*

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
The recent observation of TeV-PeV neutrinos by IceCube has opened a new window to the high-energy Universe. I will discuss this signal in the context of multi-messenger astronomy.

Active Galactic Nuclei: Jets as the Source of Hadrons and Neutrinos

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2014
Active galactic nuclei are extragalactic sources, and their relativistic hot-plasma jets are believed to be the main candidates of the cosmic-ray origin, above the so-called knee region of the cosmic-ray spectrum.

Outlook for ultraviolet astronomy [PDF]

open access: yes
A brief overview of galactic and extragalactic research is given with emphasis on the problems of temperature determination, chemical abundance determination, and the question about the energy sources for the high temperature regions.

Toward a Unification of Star Formation Rate Determinations in the Milky Way and Other Galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
The star formation rate (SFR) of the Milky Way remains poorly known, with often-quoted values ranging from 1 to 10 solar masses per year. This situation persists despite the potential for the Milky Way to serve as the ultimate SFR calibrator for external

JWST imaging of the closest globular clusters—I. Possible infrared excess among white dwarfs in NGC 6397

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 345, Issue 6-7, July-August 2024.
Abstract We present James Webb Space Telescope observations of the globular cluster NGC 6397 and use them to extend to infrared wavelengths the characterization of the cluster's entire white dwarf (WD) cooling sequence (CS). The data allows us to probe fundamental astrophysical WD properties and to search for evidence in their colors for (or against ...

High-quality Extragalactic Legacy-field Monitoring (HELM) with DECam: Project Overview and First Data Release

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
High-quality Extragalactic Legacy-field Monitoring (HELM) is a long-term observing program that photometrically monitors several well-studied extragalactic legacy fields with the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) imager on the CTIO 4 m Blanco telescope.

The Energetic Gamma-Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) Science Symposium [PDF]

open access: yes
The principle purpose of this symposium is to provide the EGRET (Energetic Gamma-Ray Experiment Telescope) scientists with an opportunity to study and improve their understanding of high energy gamma ray astronomy.

Resolved Measurements of X_(CO) in NGC 6946 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present the largest sample to date of giant molecular clouds (GMCs) in a substantial spiral galaxy other than the Milky Way. We map the distribution of molecular gas with high resolution and image fidelity within the central 5 kpc of the spiral galaxy

Gaia23ckh: Symbiotic outburst of the assumed Mira variable V390 Sco

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 345, Issue 5, June 2024.
Abstract The poorly studied variable star V390 Sco, previously classified as a Mira pulsator, was detected in a brightening event by the ESA Gaia satellite in September 2023. This work presents an analysis of available archival multifrequency photometric data of this target, along with our spectroscopic observations. Our findings lead to the conclusion

Lessons from the apparent peculiar nature of the star TYC 6544‐3483‐1

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 345, Issue 4, May 2024.
Abstract We report a radio and optical study of the star TYC 6544‐3483‐1 originally selected as a follow‐up target in the course of our efforts to cross‐identify Galactic high‐energy sources. The star by itself finally turned out to be a very ordinary main‐sequence star despite the initial expectations that apparently pointed to the contrary.
