RAMSES-CH: A New Chemodynamics Code [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We present a new chemodynamical code based on the adaptive mesh refinement code RAMSES. The new code uses Eulerian hydrodynamics and N-body dynamics in a cosmological framework to trace the production and advection of several chemical species. It is the first such code to follow the self-consistent evolution of chemical elements in cosmological volumes

Interstellar medium, young stars, and astrometric binaries in Galactic archaeology spectroscopic surveys [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Current ongoing stellar spectroscopic surveys (RAVE, GALAH, Gaia-ESO, LAMOST, APOGEE, Gaia) are mostly devoted to studying Galactic archaeology and structure of the Galaxy. But they allow for important auxiliary science: (i) Galactic interstellar medium can be studied in four dimensions (position in space + radial velocity) through weak but numerous ...

Galactic-scale macro-engineering: Looking for signs of other intelligent species, as an exercise in hope for our own

open access: yes, 2014
If we consider Big History as simply 'our' example of the process of cosmic evolution playing out, then we can seek to broaden our view of our possible fate as a species by asking questions about what paths or trajectories other species' own versions of ...

Improving Power Spectrum Estimation Using Multitapering: Efficient Asteroseismic Analyses for Understanding Stars, the Milky Way, and Beyond

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Asteroseismic time series data have imprints of stellar oscillation modes, whose detection and characterization through time series analysis allows us to probe stellar interior physics.

Neutron-capture Element Abundances of 491 Stars in Milky Way Dwarf Satellite Galaxies from Medium-resolution Spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The chemical compositions of evolved stars in Local Group dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) provide insight into the galaxy’s past star formation and nucleosynthesis. Neutron-capture element abundances are especially interesting.

RR Lyrae stars as tracers of substructure and Galactic archaeology

open access: yes, 2020

Stellar Models are Reliable at Low Metallicity: An Asteroseismic Age for the Ancient Very Metal-poor Star KIC 8144907

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Very-metal-poor stars ([Fe/H] < −2) are important laboratories for testing stellar models and reconstructing the formation history of our galaxy. Asteroseismology is a powerful tool to probe stellar interiors and measure ages, but few asteroseismic ...
