Galactic cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
The multi-facet nature of the origin of cosmic rays is such that some of the problems currently met in our path to describing available data are due to oversimplified models of CR acceleration and transport, and others to lack of knowledge of the ...

Origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 2012
The origin of the bulk of cosmic rays (CRs) observed at Earth is the topic of a century long investigation, paved with successes and failures. From the energetic point of view, supernova remnants (SNRs) remain the most plausible sources of CRs up to ...

The galactic cosmic ray ionization rate [PDF]

open access: greenProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2006
The chemistry that occurs in the interstellar medium in response to cosmic ray ionization is summarized, and a review of the ionization rates that have been derived from measurements of molecular abundances is presented. The successful detection of large abundances of H 3 + in diffuse clouds and the ...

Origin of galactic cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1995
Motivated by recent measurements of the major components of the cosmic radiation around 10 TeV/nucleon and above, we discuss the phenomenology of a model in which there are two distinct kinds of cosmic ray accelerators in the galaxy. A comparison of the spectra of hydrogen and helium up to 100 TeV per nucleon suggests that these two elements do not ...

Origin of TeV Galactic cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: greenPhysical Review D, 2012
We consider a possibility of identification of sources of cosmic rays (CR) of the energy above 1 TeV via observation of degree-scale extended gamma-ray emission which traces the locations of recent sources in the Galaxy. Such emission in the energy band above 100 GeV is produced by CR nuclei and electrons released by the sources and spreading into the ...

GALACTIC COSMIC RAY ANISOTROPY MODELLING

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2020
We calculate the angular distribution of cosmic rays at a given point of the heliosphere under the assumption that the incoming flux from outer space is isotropic. The static magnetic field is shown to cause no anisotropy provided that the observation point is situated out of the trapped particle area.

Southern Hemisphere Observations of a $10^{18}$eV Cosmic Ray Source Near the Direction of the Galactic Centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report on an analysis of data from the southern hemisphere SUGAR cosmic ray detector. We confirm the existence of an excess of $10^{18}$eV cosmic rays from a direction close to the Galactic Centre, first reported by the AGASA group.

The GRAND project and GRANDProto300 experiment [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
The Giant Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) is a proposal for a giant observatory of ultra-high energy cosmic particles (neutrinos, cosmic rays and gamma rays). It will be composed of twenty subarrays of 10 000 antennas each, totaling a detection area

Cosmic rays in early star-forming galaxies and their effects on the interstellar medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Galaxies at high redshifts with strong star formation are sources of high-energy cosmic rays. These cosmic rays interact with the baryon and radiation fields of the galactic environment via photo-pair, photo-pion and proton-proton processes to produce ...
