The Disk-Halo Distinction of Galaxies Using Faraday Tomography

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Faraday tomography allows us to study the distribution and properties of the magnetoionic medium of galaxies through the Faraday effect. However, this can be achieved only after the Faraday spectrum is interpreted.

Interstellar titanium in the galactic halo [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1995
We present observations of Ti~II~$ 3384$ absorption towards 15 distant stars in the Galactic halo and the Magellanic Clouds. These new data extend existing surveys of the distribution of Ti$^+$ to larger distances from the plane of the Galaxy than sampled previously, allowing the scale height of titanium to be determined for the first time.

A Catalog of Distance Determinations for the LAMOST DR8 K Giants in the Galactic Halo

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present a catalog of distances for 19,544 K giants drawn from Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) DR8. Most of them are located in the halo of the Milky Way up to ∼120 kpc.

FOSSILs in the Galactic Halo [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2018
AbstractWe use a matched filter to detect compact groups of old, metal-poor stars that we term FOSSILs (Fragments of Old Stellar Systems in Limbo). With size scales on the order of 10 arcminutes, distances ranging from 2 to 200 kpc, and memberships ranging from a handful to several dozen stars, these FOSSILs stand out from the surrounding field and are

Low Frequency Gravitational Waves from White Dwarf MACHO Binaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The possibility that Galactic halo MACHOs are white dwarfs has recently attracted much attention. Using the known properties of white dwarf binaries in the Galactic disk as a model, we estimate the possible contribution of halo white dwarf binaries to ...

Consistent explanation for the cosmic-ray positron excess in p-wave Breit–Wigner enhanced dark matter annihilation

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2022
Dark matter (DM) annihilation in the galactic halo can be enhanced relative to that in the early Universe due to the Breit–Wigner enhancement, if the DM particles annihilate through a narrow resonance.

Possible existence of wormholes in the galactic halo region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Two observational results, the density profile from simulations performed in the $\Lambda$CDM scenario and the observed flat galactic rotation curves, are taken as input with the aim of showing that the galactic halo possesses some of the characteristics

On the early evolution of the Galactic halo [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
It is shown that the low metallicity tail of the stellar metallicity distribution predicted by simple Outflow models for the Milky Way halo depends sensitively on whether Instantaneous Recycling is adopted or relaxed. In both cases, current - and still preliminary - data suggest a ``G-dwarf problem'' for the halo (reminiscent of the local disk).

Modeling Galactic Conformity with the Color-Halo Age Relation in the Illustris Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Comparisons between observational surveys and galaxy formation models find that the mass of dark matter haloes can largely explain galaxies' stellar mass.
