The long Galactic bar as seen by UKIDSS Galactic Plane Survey [PDF]
Astronomy & Astrophysics, 2008 Over the last decade there have been a series of results supporting the
hypothesis of the existence of a long thin bar in the Milky Way with a
half-length of 4.5 kpc and a position angle of around 45 deg.A. Cabrera-Lavers, Alves, Athanassoula, Babusiaux, Beaton, Benjamin, Benjamin, Binney, Bissantz, Blitz, Boggess, Bonatto, C. Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, 1998 AbstractThe Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) is carrying out a survey as part of an international collaboration to image the northe, at a common resolution, in emission from all major constituents of the interstellar medium; the neutral atomic gas, the molecular gas, the ionised gas, dust and relativistic plasma.Jayanne English, A. Astronomy & Astrophysics, 2018 We present the results of the most comprehensive survey of the Galactic plane in very high-energy (VHE)γ-rays, including a public release of Galactic sky maps, a catalog of VHE sources, and the discovery of 16 new sources of VHEγ-rays. The High Energy Spectroscopic System (H.E.S.S.) Galactic plane survey (HGPS) was a decade-long observation program ...Abdalla, H., Abramowski, A., Barnard, M., Katarzyński, K., Katsuragawa, M., Katz, U., Kerszberg, D., Khangulyan, D., Khélifi, B., King, J., Klepser, S., Klochkov, D., Kluźniak, W., Becherini, Y., Komin, Nu., Kosack, K., Krakau, S., Kraus, M., Krüger, P. The Astrophysical Journal, 1979 Analysis of the SAS 2 data together with the COS B results shows that the distribution of galactic gamma-radiation has several similarities to that of other large-scale tracers of galactic structure. The radiation is primarily confined to a thin disc which exhibits offsets from b = 0 degrees similar to warping at radio frequencies.R. C. Hartman, D. A. Kniffen, D. J. Thompson, C. E. Fichtel, H. B. Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2009 The first digital astronomical surveys emphasised exploration of the sky away from the crowded Galactic Plane. But now, increased computing power has made it possible to take on comprehensive surveying of the Galactic Plane even at high spatial resolution and down to faint magnitude limits.
