Dynamical limits on galactic winds, halo MACHOs and intergalactic globular clusters

open access: yes, 2002
We argue that any violent galactic winds following the early epoch of starbursts will significantly weaken the potentials of galaxies, and leave lasting signatures such as a lowered dark halo density and preferentially radial/escaping orbits for halo ...

A new class of galactic discrete gamma ray sources: Chaotic winds of massive stars

open access: yes, 1992
We propose a new class of galactic discrete gamma-ray sources, the chaotic, high mass-loss-rate winds from luminous early-type stars. Early-type stellar winds are highly unstable due to intrinsic line-driven instabilities, and so are permeated by ...

Near‐resonant excitation of the Adriatic barotropic modes: The seiche events of December 2019

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study examines severe flooding in the northern Adriatic Sea in December 2019, which existing forecasting systems failed to predict. Analysis of wind and sea‐level data, alongside reanalysis datasets and a high‐resolution hydrodynamic model, revealed a wind‐induced resonance mechanism.

Hybrid physics–data‐driven modeling for sea ice thermodynamics and transfer learning

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Icepack–NN, a machine‐learning‐based hybrid version of the sea‐ice column model Icepack, is developed to correct state‐dependent forecast errors arising from misspecified snow thermodynamics, using neural networks applied online within the physical model.
