A sensitive assay for galactokinase in Escherichia coli
Analytical Biochemistry, 1962Abstract A sensitive, reproducible procedure for assay of galactokinase in Escherichia coli, employing galactose-C14 as substrate, microcolumns of Dowex-1 for separation of product from substrate, and toluenization for extraction of enzyme is described in detail. Requirements for stabilization of the enzyme are discussed.

Galactokinase and galactose metabolism in Leishmania spp.
Experimental ParasitologyIn Leishmania, the nucleotide-sugar UDP-galactose can be synthesized by a salvage pathway, the Isselbacher route, involving phosphorylation of galactose and the action of UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase. The first enzyme of the pathway, galactokinase, has yet to be studied in this parasite.

The Philadelphia variant of galactokinase.
American journal of human genetics, 1977We have previously reported the existence of a polymorphism that causes black populations to have lower mean RBC galactokinase activity than comparable white populations. We have designated this allele the Philadelphia variant, GALKP, and have suggested that it is common in blacks and rare in whites.
