The Galatheidae (Anomura: Galatheoidea) of South Africa, with a description of a new species

Zootaxa
Squat lobsters of the family Galatheidae are severely understudied in South Africa and have never been the subject of a regional monographic study. The last additions and updates to the fauna were made almost 20 years ago and a revision of this family is thus long overdue.

First records of two squat lobsters (Decapoda, Galatheidae) from Korea

Crustaceana, 2019
Abstract Two galatheids, Allogalathea elegans (Adams & White, 1848) and Phylladiorhynchus pusillus (Henderson, 1885), are newly reported from Korean waters in material from around Jeju Island. The two genera, Allogalathea Baba, 1969 and Phylladiorhynchus Baba, 1969 are also reported from Korea for the first time.

First record of Munidopsis acutispina Benedict, 1902 (Decapoda, Anomura, Galatheidae) in the Mediterranean Sea

Crustaceana, 2002
The minute squat lobster Munidopsis acutispina Benedict, 1902 is recorded for the first time from bathyal grounds in the Mediterranean Sea. It can easily be distinguished from the two species of Munidopsis previously known from the Mediterranean, for the surface of the carapace covered with squamous spiniform tubercles.

Anti-baculovirus activity in a protein extracted from the exoskeleton of Pleuroncodes planipes [Decapoda: Galatheidae]

Fish and Shellfish Immunology, 2011
Antiviral activity (99.5% inhibition) against the Autographa californica polyhedrosis nuclear virus AcNPV+GFP was shown by a polypeptide of approximately 10 kDa, isolated from the exoskeleton of Pleuroncodes planipes, the pelagic red crab. This thermo-stable polypeptide retained its anti-viral properties after being exposed to 76 °C for 30 min and ...

The aggressive behavior ofMunida sarsi(Crustacea: Galatheidae)

Sarsia, 1970
Abstract Munida sarsi is a deep water, bottom-living galatheid. Its aggressive behavior was observed for several weeks in aquaria that could only partially mimic its natural habitat. It threatens by extending its chelipeds, snapping its pincers, and raising its abdomen off the mud.

The carotenoid pigmentation of Pleuroncodes planipes stimpson (Crustacea: Decapoda: Galatheidae

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1972
Abstract 1. 1. The carotenoid pigments found in Pleuroncodes planipes were β-carotene, two esters of astaxanthin. 2. 2. Pigment yields were estimated to be from 8·3 to 9·9 mg/100 g of whole animal. 3. 3. P. planipes appears to be a good source of carotenoids for fishes which can utilize dietary astaxanthin.

Moulting of a deep-sea galatheid crab (Anomura, Galatheidae) at a depth of 3572 m

Hydrobiologia, 2000
The moulting of the deep-sea galatheid crab, Mundopsissp. was observed using a seafloor observatory at a depth of 3572 m in Nankai Trough, western Japan. The duration of the ecdysis was 147 seconds. The crab rested on the substratum until ecdysis was complete. After ecdysis, it flicked and moved away from its exuviae.

The microanatomy of the optic ganglia of Munida irrasa (Decapoda: Galatheidae)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1976
The microanatomy of the optic ganglia of Munida irrasa was examined by reconstruction from stained serial sections. There are four optic ganglia arranged in a consecutive manner: a distal lamina ganglionaris followed by a medulla externis, medulla internis, and medulla terminalis. Two optic chiasmata are present.

First record of Munidopsis albatrossae (Crustacea: Decapoda: Galatheidae) from Antarctic waters

Polar Biology, 2008
During the BENTART 2006 Expedition, a specimen of the galatheid Munidopsis albatrossae (Crustacea, Decapoda) was sampled in the Bellingshausen Sea, at 1920 m depth on soft bottoms. This specimen represents the first record of the family for Antarctic waters.

A new squat lobster, Munida rupicola (Crustacea: Decapoda: Galatheidae), from Taiwan

Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington, 2005
ABSTRACT A new squat lobster of the genus Munida was collected during on-going deep-sea expeditions around Taiwan. The new species, Munida rupicola, belongs to the group containing M. microps Alcock, 1894, M. africana Balss, 1913, M. profunda Macpherson & de Saint Laurent, 1991, M. rubella Macpherson & de Saint Laurent, 1991, and M.
