The Evolution of Galaxies and Active Galaxies with Cosmic Epoch
1998Over recent years, there has been a deluge of data concerning changes with cosmic epoch of essentially all classes of extragalactic object. Evidence for strong evolutionary changes with cosmic epoch was first found in the 1950s and 1960s as a result of surveys of extragalactic radio sources and quasars.

The Fueling of Active Galaxies
The International Journal of Supercomputing Applications, 1991Collisions of galaxies are often invoked to explain vio lent phenomena in the universe. The dynamics of in teracting galaxies is intrinsically three-dimensional and involves both gas and stellar dynamics. In general, a computational approach is needed to model galactic collisions. Galaxy encounters are studied using a hy brid N-body/hydrodynamics code,

Activity in elliptical galaxies
Advances in Space Research, 1999Abstract Elliptical galaxies exhibit a continuum of behaviour between ‘normal’ and highly active objects, with no clear dividing line between the two classes. High-resolution radio observations show that many bright ellipticals contain parsec-scale radio cores which are qualitatively similar to the central engines of radio galaxies but up to a ...

AbstractMost astronomers know about B. E. Markarians discovery and further study of galaxies with UV excess. It is less known that in 1963 Markarian drew attention to a small group of galaxies with color index-spectral type discrepancy. Early spectral type of these galaxies is combined with large color index (e.g. M82).

Many details of the structure of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) galaxies continue to elude researchers in the field. To shed light on some of the enigmas related to the fueling and classification of AGN, I have studied the core structure of a sample of 37 nearby Seyfert galaxies at high resolution using adaptive optics on the CFHT.

Reprinted from Astrophysics and Space Science vol. 205, no. 1 (1993), over 30 articles discuss aspects of some nearby galaxies. The topics include circumnuclear populations in nearby AGN, the starburst scenario for radio emission in active galaxies, radiation from arbitrarily shaped objects in the ...

Observations of active galaxies
Nature, 1987New information obtained by the EXOSAT satellite on the nature of the X-ray variability in AGNs is discussed. From the EXOSAT data, it is seen that many more AGNs vary on short timescales; in some cases, the character of the time variability is quantitatively and qualitatively different than expected from the flare model of the variability. Data on the

On the Activity of the Nuclei of Galaxies
1979The history of science is aware of cases when the name of the author of one theory or concept or another, that has won universal acknowledgement, Is often not mentioned or even forgotten. I do not believe that the name of the man who advanced and substantiated the Idea of the activity of the nuclei of galaxies, Prof. Ambartsumian, is somehow forgotten.
