PERICLES: A Set of Empirical Rotational Isochrones Modeled on Cool Dwarfs in Open Clusters and Wide Binaries

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 347, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Isochrones, equal‐age curves, are widely used in astrophysics to estimate stellar ages. Classical stellar parameters are, however, very limited in their usability for main sequence stars because of their weak age‐dependence. Here, rotation period measurements provide complementary information.

Enhancing Wholemeal Bread Shelf Life Using Optimized Mixtures of Cinnamon, Clove, and Bay Leaf Essential Oils

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the preservative potential of essential oils (EOs) in bakery products by identifying fungal contaminants in bread, testing the in vitro antifungal activity of a mixture of cinnamon, clove, and bay leaf EOs, and assessing their effectiveness in extending shelf life. Fungal identification revealed the presence of Penicillium,

Practices for Braiding Indigenous Knowledges and Western Sciences for Research and Monitoring of Biodiversity in Canada

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our research article addresses ‘if, when and how’ to bring together Indigenous knowledges (IK) and Western sciences (WS) in practice in biodiversity research and monitoring, though a combination of interviews/sharing circles with Indigenous Peoples, a systematic literature search, and then braiding outcomes from each.

Shelf‐Life Enhancement of Sugarcane Juice With Herbal Extracts: Extracted Through Novel Microwave‐Assisted Drying Extraction Technique

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 91-99, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Antioxidants in foods delay or prevent the oxidation of the food. Previously, synthetic antioxidants were commonly used in food formulations, but, due to safety concerns, interest in natural antioxidants has intensified. A novel microwave‐assisted drying extraction process was adopted to dry mint and coriander leaves.

Rivers of Tears – Convergent, Multi‐Scale Approaches to Monitor and Optimize the Health of Our World's Inhabitants

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2026.
Probing and sustaining the health of Earth's ecosystems and their inhabitants requires convergent approaches at multiple length and time scales. Predictive computational and physical modeling, together with novel biotechnologies applied in unexpected ways, are paving the way for discoveries at the intersection of epidemiology and geospatial science ...
