Intermittent Magnetic Fields Generated by Turbulence in Galaxies and Galaxy Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1990
The turbulence of intracluster gas in galaxy clusters and interstellar gas in galaxies can act as a dynamo generating chaotic magnetic fields. These fields are concentrated in ropes with the doubled radius of curvature of about the turbulent correlation length l and thickness where Rm is the magnetic Reynolds number.

THE NEXT GENERATION VIRGO CLUSTER SURVEY. XX. RedGOLD BACKGROUND GALAXY CLUSTER DETECTIONS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT We build a background cluster candidate catalog from the Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey (NGVS) using our detection algorithm RedGOLD. The NGVS covers 104 deg2 of the Virgo cluster in the -bandpasses to a depth of g ∼ 25.7 mag (5σ).

Next generation cosmology: constraints from theEuclidgalaxy cluster survey [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2016
We study the characteristics of the galaxy cluster samples expected from the European Space Agency's Euclid satellite and forecast constraints on cosmological parameters describing a variety of cosmological models. The method used in this paper, based on the Fisher Matrix approach, is the same one used to provide the constraints presented in the Euclid

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Faint Dwarf Galaxies in the Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey [PDF]

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2011
The Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey (NGVS) is a CFHT Large Program that is using the wide field of view capabilities of the MegaCam camera to map the entire Virgo Cluster from its core to virial radius. The observing strategy has been optimized to detect very low surface brightness structures in the cluster, including intracluster stellar streams ...

Janus kinase 2 inhibition by pacritinib as potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Diagram of the activation of the profibrotic and procontractile Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/Ras homolog family member A/Rho‐kinase pathway and the inhibition of phosphorylated JAK2 by pacritinib to inhibit hepatic stellate cell activity. Abstract Background and Aims Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signaling is increased in human and experimental liver fibrosis with ...

Turbulence generation by substructure motion in clusters of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 2005
Clusters of galaxies form through major merger and/or absorption of smaller groups. In fact, some characteristic structures such as cold fronts, which are likely relevant to moving substructures, are found by {\it Chandra}. It is expected that moving substructures generate turbulence in the intracluster medium (ICM).

Semi-analytical study on the generic degeneracy for galaxy clustering measurements [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2014
AbstractFrom the galaxy power spectrum in redshift space, we derive semi-analytical results on the generic degeneracy of galaxy clustering measurements. Defining the observables A = Gbσ8 and R = Gfσ8, (being G the growth function, b the bias, f the growth rate, and σ8 the amplitude of the power spectrum), we perform a Fisher matrix formalism to ...
