Dwarf galaxies in Clusters

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2003
Dwarf and Low Surface Brightness (LSB) galaxies are the most numerous type of galaxies in the local Universe. However ubiquitous they are, their properties remain widely unexplored. Dwarf galaxies range from Ultra Compact Objects (UCO), Dwarf Ellipticals (dE), Dwarf Spheroidals (dSph) to Dwarf Irregulars (dIrr) and are generally of low surface ...

Dwarf ring galaxy

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1977
This paper reports the discovery of a ring galaxy which has a very low surface brightness. Although its intrinsic luminosity and diameter indicate that it may be a dwarf galaxy, the possibility is suggested that it is a ring galaxy in its later stages of evolution.

Cometary Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies:

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2001
‘Cometary’ Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies (iI,C BCDs) are characterized by off-center starbursts close to the end of an elongated dwarf irregular (dI)-like host galaxy. This may either represent randomly enhanced star-forming activity of a dI, or may be caused by a set of special properties of such systems or their environment.

Dwarf Irregular Galaxies

2004
Dwarf irregular galaxies at optical wavelengths are small, faint and appear to be unstructured and irregular in shape. They are typically gas-rich, metal-poor systems, with varying levels of STAR FORMATION occurring in a haphazard manner across the ...

Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies

1992
The properties of dwarf spheroidals are reviewed with emphasis on the newly discovered Sextans system, as well as on the star formation histories, the dark matter content and the abundance — luminosity relation of these galaxies. The relation of dwarf spheroidals to other dwarf galaxies is also discussed.

Dwarf Galaxies in Nearby Galaxy Groups

2011
The nearby Universe is populated mostly by galaxy groups, whose dominant galaxies are surrounded by dwarf galaxies. We have observed nearby galaxy groups in a distance range of 13–34 Mpc with a variety of different morphologies, densities, and richness in order to investigate their dwarf galaxy populations and to detect tidal streams in the halos of ...

Simulations of Dwarf Galaxy Formation

2011
Dwarf galaxies are related to important cosmological questions, and central to our understanding of the physics of galaxy formation. In this thesis, I present the results of cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations of the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies.
