Fragmentation of Expanding Shells in Spiral and Irregular Galaxies
Conditions for the fragmentation of expanding shells due to gravitational instability are discussed. The self-similar analytical solution is compared with the results of 3-dimensional computer simulations for the expansion into homogeneous media. For realistic galactic disks we show that the formation of fragments is influenced by the amount of energy ...

Genuine Irregular Galaxies as a Relic of Building Blocks of Galaxies
In order to understand nature of building blocks of galaxies in the early universe, we investigate "genuine irregular galaxies (GIGs)" in the nearby universe. Here, GIGs are defined as isolated galaxies without regular structures (spheroid, bulge, disk, bar, spiral arm, and nucleus). Using the results of two excellent studies on galaxy morphology based

Empirical Dependencies for Irregular and Elliptical Dwarf Galaxies
This study examines the physical properties and correlations for dwarf galaxies, including irregular (dIrr) and elliptical (dE) types. Data from the NASA/IPAC and HyperLEDA databases were used to analyze relationships among parameters such as distance to galaxy, absolute magnitude of galaxy, mass of galaxy, and surface brightness of galaxy using ...

The inclination of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II
We provide constraints on the inclination angle of the H\,{\sc i} disk of the dwarf irregular galaxy Holmberg II (Ho II) from stability analysis of the outer gaseous disk. We point out that a mean inclination angle of 27 degrees and thus a flat circular velocity of ~60 km/s, is required to have a level of gravitational stability similar to that found ...
