The SAMI Galaxy Survey: Kinematics of Stars and Gas in Brightest Group Galaxies—The Role of Group Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract We study the stellar and gas kinematics of the brightest group galaxies (BGGs) in dynamically relaxed and unrelaxed galaxy groups for a sample of 154 galaxies in the SAMI galaxy survey. We characterize the dynamical state of the groups using the luminosity gap between the two most luminous galaxies and the BGG offset from the ...

Kinematics and dynamics of the haloes of supergiant galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1985
On presente des mesures de la cinematique interne des halos de 3 galaxies supergeantes dans des amas moderement riches. On trouve que les profils de la dispersion des vitesses sont plats ou croissent avec le rayon.

Evaluating galaxy dynamical masses from kinematics and jeans equilibrium in simulations [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2021
ABSTRACT We provide prescriptions to evaluate the dynamical mass (Mdyn) of galaxies from kinematic measurements of stars or gas using analytic considerations and the VELA suite of cosmological zoom-in simulations at z = 1–5. We find that Jeans or hydrostatic equilibrium is approximately valid for galaxies of stellar masses above M⋆ ∼ 109.

Kinematical and Dynamical Modeling of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2006
Elements of kinematical and dynamical modeling of elliptical galaxies (Es) are presented. In projection, NFW models resemble Sersic models, but with a very narrow range of shapes (m=3+/-1). The total density profile of Es cannot be NFW-like because the predicted local M/L and aperture velocity dispersion within an effective radius (Re) are much lower ...

Photometry, Kinematics and Dynamics of the Barred Galaxy NGC 5383 [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1983
NGC 5383 has often been used as a prototype of SB(s)b type galaxies, particulary in studies of gas flow. We have therefore set out to complement the existing data with surface photometry, velocity measurements in the bar and a dynamical model.

Kinematic scaling relations of CALIFA galaxies: A dynamical mass proxy for galaxies across the Hubble sequence [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
We used ionized gas and stellar kinematics for 667 spatially resolved galaxies publicly available from the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area survey (CALIFA) 3rd Data Release with the aim of studying kinematic scaling relations as the Tully $\&$ Fisher (TF) relation using rotation velocity, $V_{rot}$, the Faber $\&$ Jackson (FJ) relation ...

Decomposition of the central structure of NGC 2273 in the NIR: A case study

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 344, Issue 10, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 2273 is a prime target to explore how active nuclei can be fed. It has a star‐forming innermost nuclear ring with a radius of 0.33kpc from where material may be funneled to the supermassive black hole in its center. In this article, we discuss high‐resolution adaptive optics aided JHKs images of NGC 2273 taken with the
