Star Formation in Star Burst Galaxies

1990
The present contribution does not aim at reviewing the subject, but rather intends to present some specific observational and theoretical results. For a summary on the topic of star bursts I may refer the reader to the almost up-to-date review papers by Scalo (1987) and Telesco (1988).

History of Star Formation in Normal Galaxies

1989
Medium resolution spectroscopic observations have been obtained for the brighter galaxies in 6 clusters covering the redshift range 0.18 ≤ z ≤ 0.39. These observations have been analysed by an evolutionary synthesis technique tied to the VandenBerg isochrone scale, to determine the trends with redshift of the stellar age and metallicity distributions ...

Molecular Gas and Star Formation in Galaxies

1997
Using the 14m millimeter telescope of the Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory (HPBW=45″), we have observed the CO J=l-0 emission at 1412 positions in 300 galaxies. These observations, which comprise the FCRAO Extragalactic CO Survey, are the most extensive and uniform database on the content and large-scale distribution of molecular gas content in

Galaxy‐galaxy interactions as triggers of star formation

Astronomische Nachrichten, 2009
AbstractGalaxy‐galaxy interactions represent the main physical processes that trigger substantial star formation in galaxies. In order to study the galaxy interactions effects on color and morphology of the galaxies in the fields of two radio galaxies at z ∼ 1, we combined optical‐NIR photometry and HST/WFPC2 morphology data from the Stanford et al ...

From star formation to galaxy formation

2008
Current scenarios for the large-scale structure of the universe lead to rather precise predictions for the structure and evolution of primeval galaxies. These scenarios are reviewed, and models of protogalaxies are described. I discuss the origin of the first stars, and the chemical evolution of galaxies.
