DISCOVERY OF LARGE MOLECULAR GAS RESERVOIRS IN POST-STARBURST GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Post-starburst (or “E+A”) galaxies are characterized by low Hα emission and strong Balmer absorption, suggesting a recent starburst, but little current star formation.

Imaging FTS: A Different Approach to Integral Field Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Imaging Fourier transform spectroscopy (iFTS) is a promising, although technically very challenging, option for wide‐field hyperspectral imagery. We present in this paper an introduction to the iFTS concept and its advantages and drawbacks, as well as examples of data obtained with a prototype iFTS, SpIOMM, attached to the 1.6 m telescope of the ...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STAR FORMATION RATE AND BLACK HOLE ACCRETION AT z = 2: THE DIFFERENT CONTRIBUTIONS IN QUIESCENT, NORMAL, AND STARBURST GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the co-evolution of the black hole accretion rate (BHAR) and the star formation rate (SFR) in 1.5 < z < 2.5 ?> galaxies displaying a greater diversity of star-forming properties compared to previous studies.

Chemodynamical Simulations of Dwarf Galaxy Evolution

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
In this review I give a summary of the state of the art for what concerns the chemo‐dynamical numerical modelling of galaxies in general and of dwarf galaxies in particular. In particular, I focus my attention on (i) initial conditions, (ii) the equations to solve; (iii) the star formation process in galaxies, (iv) the initial mass function, (v) the ...

Wolf–Rayet stars in starburst galaxies

open access: yesNew Astronomy Reviews, 2000
Wolf-Rayet stars have been detected in a large number of galaxies experiencing intense bursts of star formation. All stars initially more massive than a certain, metallicity-dependent, value are believed to experience the Wolf-Rayet phase at the end of their evolution, just before collapsing in supernova explosion.

HIGH-J CO VERSUS FAR-INFRARED RELATIONS IN NORMAL AND STARBURST GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present correlations between 9 CO transitions ( J = 4 – 3 ?> to 12 – 11 ?> ) and beam-matched far-infrared (far-IR) luminosities ( L FIR , b ?> ) among 167 local galaxies, using Herschel Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver Fourier Transform ...

Anomalous Microwave Emission from Star Forming Regions

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The evidence for microwave emission from spinning dust grains has been strengthened considerably by its detection in a number of discrete astrophysical objects associated with star formation. These detections, in combination with statistical constraints on its presence on large angular scales in the diffuse ISM, have provided strong observational ...

CO-Observations of Post-Starburst Galaxies

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 2001
The so-called starburst phenomenon is an issue of great importance for the evolution of galaxies. Although a lot of progress has been made in this field, it is still unknown how they evolve.

Local starburst galaxies and their descendants. Statistics from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Despite strong interest in the starburst phenomenon in extragalactic astronomy, the concept remains ill-defined. Here we use a strict definition of starburst to examine the statistical properties of starburst galaxies in the local universe.

Overtone Transition 2ν1 of HCO+ and HOC+: Origin, Radiative Lifetime, Collisional Quenching

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 25, Issue 21, November 4, 2024.
The C−H/O−H stretch vibration overtone of one of the simplest molecular ion isomeric systems HCO+/HOC+ is studied in a cryogenic ion trap experiment. Moreover, our comprehensive “zero background” method enables the determination of radiative lifetimes and select quenching reaction rates at the same time.
