The stellar content of nuclear star clusters in spiral galaxies
SPIE Proceedings, 2003We discuss first results from a spectroscopic survey of nuclear star clusters in nearby, late-type spiral galaxies. The data, obtained with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS), allow us to derive cluster ages via stellar population synthesis methods.

The stellar content of the A496 cD galaxy
Astronomy & Astrophysics, 1985J, H, and K radial color distributions obtained for the galaxy A496 cD indicate that while the halo becomes bluer at increasing radii in the B-V, it becomes redder in the visual-IR colors. The combined visual-IR data lead to a unique model for both the main sequence and giant stars in which the main sequence is characterized by a radial increase of an ...

Stellar content of the interacting galaxies of the M51 system
Astronomy Letters, 2009Based on archival Hubble Space Telescope ACS/WFC images, we have performed stellar photometry for more than 0.6 million stars in the interacting galaxies NGC 5194 and NGC 5195 of the M51 system. Stars of various ages have been identified on the constructed Hertzsprung-Russell diagram: blue and red supergiants, AGB stars, and red giants. The distance to

The Stellar Content of Early-Type Galaxies in Dense Environments
1989We present evidence, based on an analysis of the integrated spectra of cluster and field galaxies, that the stellar content of early-type galaxies in the cores of rich clusters is different from that of early-type galaxies in low-density environments. Specifically, the large intermediate-age stellar populations inferred to exist in ellipticals in low ...

The Evolving Stellar Content of Galaxies and the X-Ray Evolution of Elliptical Galaxies
1990Some of the several roles played by the evolving stellar component of galaxies are introduced, and the ultimate root of many observational correlations among global galaxy properties is indicated in the current stellar death rate. As a concrete example, the case of the stellar mass loss in elliptical galaxies is examined in detail. The material lost by
