THE SHAPE OF GALAXY STRUCTURES

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2009
An analysis is presented for a statistically complete sample of 547 galaxy structures with z ≤ 0.16, each containing at least 10 objects. The sample was divided according to structure richness, representing 10 richness classes, with the distribution of ellipticities differing among individual classes.

A polarimetry study of starburst galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Optical imaging polarimetry has been carried out for a number of starburst galaxies under various morphological classifications. In several cases, kpc-scale reflection nebulae are detected which arise from dust grains scattering starburst radiation ...

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

The effect of the galaxy environment on the size and structure of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this thesis, we explore the effect of the galaxy environment on the physical size and structure of the stellar distribution for relatively local galaxies (z < 0.3) using Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging and data from the Space Telescope A901/2 galaxy evolution survey (STAGES).

Galaxy clustering and galaxy clusters from the UKIDSS DXS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recent wide and deep surveys allow us to investigate the large scale structure of the Universe at high redshift. We present studies of the clustering of high redshift galaxies and galaxy clusters, using reprocessed UKIDSS DXS catalogues.

Patterns of wild meat and other protein consumption in the periphery of Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract In Central Africa, human activities are severely impacting terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, threatening the food security of millions of people. Accordingly, sustainable use of wildlife is crucial for the nutrition and livelihoods of many rural communities in the region.

The time delay between star formation quenching and morphological transformation of galaxies in clusters: a phase–space view of EDisCS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We explore the possible effect of cluster environments on the structure and star formation histories of galaxies by analysing the projected phase–space (PPS) of intermediate-redshift clusters (0.4 z 0.8).

Star clusters in unperturbed spiral galaxies

open access: yes, 2008
Stars do not form in isolation, they form in groups known as star clusters. Star clusters are seen in a wide range of galaxies and environments. Their presence reveals the history of the host galaxy and the processes of its star formation.

Evolution of galactic disks and spheroids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this Thesis the structural properties of galaxies using quantitative 2-dimensional bulge to disk decompositions are analysed across a range of environments and red- shifts.
