Kinematic Modeling of Distant Galaxies
Evolution of galaxies is one of the most actual topics in astrophysics. Among the most important factors determining the evolution are two galactic components which are difficult or even impossible to detect optically: the gaseous disks and the dark ...

The Evolution of Galaxy Groups and of Galaxies Therein [PDF]
Properties of groups of galaxies depend sensitively on the algorithm for group selection, and even the most recent catalogs of groups built from redshift-space selection should suffer from projections and infalling galaxies. The cosmo-dynamical evolution of groups from initial Hubble expansion to collapse and virialization leads to a fundamental track (

Torques and angular momentum: Counter-rotation in galaxies and ring galaxies [PDF]
We present an alternate origin scenario to explain the observed phenomena of (1) counter-rotation between different galaxy components and (2) the formation of ring galaxies. We suggest that these are direct consequences of the galaxy being acted upon by a torque which causes a change in its primordial spin angular momentum first observed as changes in ...

Disturbed isolated galaxies: indicators of a dark galaxy population? [PDF]
We report the results of our search for disturbed (interacting) objects among very isolated galaxies. The inspections of 1050 northern isolated galaxies from KIG and 500 nearby, very isolated galaxies situated in the Local Supercluster yielded five and four strongly disturbed galaxies, respectively.

Cool Gas in High-Redshift Galaxies [PDF]
Over the past decade, observations of the cool interstellar medium (ISM) in distant galaxies via molecular and atomic fine structure line (FSL) emission have gone from a curious look into a few extreme, rare objects to a mainstream tool for studying ...

I give a review of the development of the concept of dark matter. The dark matter story passed through several stages from a minor observational puzzle to a major challenge for theory of elementary particles.

Distribution and Evolution of Metals in the Magneticum Simulations
Metals are ideal tracers of the baryonic cycle within halos. Their composition is a fossil record connecting the evolution of the various stellar components of galaxies to the interaction with the environment by in- and out-flows.

Galaxy Zoo: morphologies derived from visual inspection of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey [PDF]
In order to understand the formation and subsequent evolution of galaxies one must first distinguish between the two main morphological classes of massive systems: spirals and early-type systems.

Grand Design versus Multiarmed Spiral Galaxies: Dependence on Galaxy Structure
We developed an algorithm to use Galaxy Zoo 3D spiral arm masks produced by citizen scientist volunteers to semiautomatically classify spiral galaxies as either multiarmed or grand design spirals. Our final sample consists of 299 multiarmed and 245 grand

Studying the Patterns of the Universe
The SDSS galaxy catalog is one of the best databases for galaxy distribution studies. The SDSS DR8 data is used to construct the galaxy cluster catalog.
