Night‐Time Curfew, Day‐Time Masks

open access: yesAnthropology and Humanism, Volume 47, Issue 2, Page 409-415, December 2022., 2022
SUMMARY In this narrative, I offer a lightly fictionalized version of my experience returning to Kenya from the United States to conduct fieldwork from late 2020 through mid‐2021, a period when the COVID‐19 pandemic was ravaging globally. My narrative reveals how local people draw on their knowledge of the corrupt police system to resist COVID‐19 ...

Galaxies and Cladistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Hubble tuning fork diagram, based on morphology and established in the 1930s, has always been the preferred scheme for classification of galaxies. However, the current large amount of multiwavelength data, most often spectra, for objects up to very high distances, asks for more sophisticated statistical approaches.

Allobaculum plays a predominant role in the activation of brown fat tissue by diallyl trisulfide

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Diallyl trisulfide activates brown adipose tissue and prevents obesity by promoting the relative abundance of Allobaculum in the gut of mice. Oral supplementation of Allobaculum stercoricanis, a primary species in Allobaculum, activates brown adipose tissue and prevents obesity.

Integrative cross‐tissue analysis unveils complement‐immunoglobulin augmentation and dysbiosis‐related fatty acid metabolic remodeling during mammalian aging

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Our study provides a comprehensive multi‐omics profile of aging, integrating proteomic, metabolomic, and metagenomic analyses across diverse tissues and plasma. We identified the synergistic amplification of the circulating complement system and tissue‐wide immunoglobulin accumulation as key molecular drivers of inflammaging.

The effect of an electronic health record choice architecture intervention on efficient diuretic use: A research report

open access: yesJACCP: JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CLINICAL PHARMACY, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Oral metolazone and intravenous (IV) chlorothiazide have comparable diuretic efficacy and safety, although IV chlorothiazide is significantly more expensive. The use of electronic health record (EHR)‐based choice architecture interventions on the efficient use of diuretics remains unexplored.

Utility of circulating tumor DNA in secondary liver malignancies: What we know and what is to come

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
Abstract Secondary liver malignancies are a serious and challenging global health concern. Secondary metastasis to the liver is most commonly from colorectal cancer that has metastatically spread through splanchnic circulation. Metastatic diseases can portend poor prognosis due to the progressive nature typically found on detection.

Circulating Tumor DNA as a Marker of Recurrence Risk in Stage III Colorectal Cancer: The α‐CORRECT Study

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Identification of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients at high risk of recurrence could be of substantial clinical use. We evaluated the association of ctDNA status, using a tumor‐informed assay, with recurrence‐free survival (RFS). Methods Stage III CRC patients were enrolled between 2016 and 2020.

Galaxy Morphology

open access: yes, 2013
Galaxy morphology is a product of how galaxies formed, how they interacted with their environment, how they were influenced by internal perturbations, AGN, and dark matter, and of their varied star formation histories. This article reviews the phenomenology of galaxy morphology and classification with a view to delineating as many types as possible and
