Disk Galaxies and Galaxy Disks [PDF]
The conference Galaxy Disks and Disk Galaxies, sponsored by the Vatican Observatory, was held in June 12-16, 2000 at the Pontifical Gregorian University, in Rome (Italy). The meeting hosted about 230 participants coming from 30 countries. The very full program consisted of 29 review papers, 34 invited talks, and more than 180 posters.

GALAXY DISKS ARE SUBMAXIMAL [PDF]
We measure the contribution of galaxy disks to the overall gravitational potential of 30 nearly face-on intermediate-to-late-type spirals from the DiskMass Survey. The central vertical velocity dispersion of the disk stars, sigma(z,R=0), is related to the maximum rotation speed (Vmax) as sigma(z,R=0) ~ 0.26 Vmax, consistent with previous measurements ...

An Integrated Transient Expression and UPLC-PDA Approach for Functional Genomics and Metabolic Analysis of Cannabis sativa. [PDF]
Graphical Abstract and Lay Summary Cannabis research is limited by a lack of efficient tools for studying gene function and metabolism. We developed two rapid, high‐efficiency methods for transient gene expression in high‐THC Cannabis and a simple, cost‐effective method to measure cannabinoids and cannflavins.

THE OUTER DISKS OF GALAXIES:“TO BE OR NOT TO BE TRUNCATED?” [PDF]
We have in recent years come to view the outer parts of galaxies as having vital clues about their formation and evolution. Here, we would like to briefly present our results from a complete sample of nearby, late-type, spiral galaxies, using data from the SDSS survey, especially focused on the stellar light distribution in the outer disk.

On the Extended Knotted Disks of Galaxies [PDF]
The stellar disks of many spiral galaxies are twice as large as generally thought. We use archival data from the Galaxy Evolution Explorer mission (GALEX) to quantify the statistical properties of young stellar clusters in the outer, extended disks of a sample of eleven nearby galaxies.

The evolution of disk galaxies in clusters [PDF]
We are carrying out a programme to measure the evolution of the stellar and dynamical masses and M/L ratios for a sizeable sample of morphologically-classified disk galaxies in rich galaxy clusters at 0 ...

THE PARKER INSTABILITY IN DISK GALAXIES [PDF]
ABSTRACT We examine the evolution of the Parker instability in galactic disks using 3D numerical simulations. We consider a local Cartesian box section of a galactic disk, where gas, magnetic fields, and cosmic rays are all initially in a magnetohydrostatic equilibrium. This is done for different choices of initial cosmic-ray density and

THE OPACITY OF SPIRAL GALAXY DISKS [PDF]
The opacity of foreground spiral disks can be probed from the number of distant galaxies seen through them. To calibrate this number for effects other than the dust extinction, Gonzalez et al. (1998) developed the "Synthetic Field Method". A synthetic field is an extincted Hubble Deep Field added to the science field.
