UGC 7388: a galaxy with two tidal loops
We present the results of spectroscopic and morphological studies of the galaxy UGC7388 with the 8.1-m Gemini North telescope. Judging by its observed characteristics, UGC7388 is a giant late-type spiral galaxy seen almost edge-on.

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

Stellar Populations of the Galactic Disk: Metallicity Distribution and Kinematics
Metallicities and distances have been determined from Vilnius photometry for an in situ sample of nearly 650 stars in eight proper-motion fields at high Galactic latitudes.

Geometrized Vacuum Physics. Part XII: Naked "Galaxies" – "Particles" of Dark Matter?
This article is the twelfth part of the scientific project under the general title "Geometrized Vacuum Physics Based on the Algebra of Signature " (Batanov-Gaukhman, 2023a, 2023b, 2023c, 2023d, 2023e, 2023f, 2024a, 2024b, 2024c, 2024d, 2024e).

Scalable Automated Detection of Spiral Galaxy Arm Segments
Given an approximately centered image of a spiral galaxy, we describe an entirely automated method that finds, centers, and sizes the galaxy and then automatically extracts structural information about the spiral arms. For each arm segment found, we list

Theories of how galaxies, the fundamental constituents of large-scale structure, form and evolve have undergone a dramatic paradigm shift in the last few decades. Earlier views were of rapid, early collapse and formation of basic structures, followed by slow evolution of the stellar populations and steady buildup of the chemical elements.

Galaxy Mass Distribution from Galaxy-Galaxy Gravitational Lensing [PDF]
The average gravitational lens distortion of background galaxy images by foreground galaxies is an independent, non-kinematical measurement of galaxy mass distribution M(r)/r (Tyson, et al. 1984). The upper limit we obtained for the equivalent circular velocity, while small compared with some heavy halo models, is consistent with dynamical estimates ...

From Galaxy‐Galaxy Lensing to Cosmological Parameters
Galaxy-galaxy lensing measures the mean excess surface density DS(r) around a sample of lensing galaxies. We develop a method for combining DS(r) with the galaxy correlation function xi_gg(r) to constrain Omega_m and sigma_8, going beyond the linear bias model to reach the level of accuracy demanded by current and future measurements. We adopt the halo

The Curious Case of CysE: Diversity and Distribution of Serine Acetyltransferases in Bacteria
ABSTRACT Serine acetyltransferase (CysE) is a member of the left‐handed β‐helix family of acetyltransferases that catalyze the rate limiting step in de novo cysteine biosynthesis. There are two isoforms of CysE that differ in length, with the shorter isoform lacking approximately 76 amino acids at the N‐terminus of the protein from the serine ...
