Discovery of a Nearby Low-Surface-Brightness Spiral Galaxy [PDF]
During the course of a search for compact, isolated gas clouds moving with anomalous velocities in or near our own Galaxy (Braun and Burton 1998 A&A, in press), we have discovered, in the data of the Leiden/Dwingeloo survey (Hartmann and Burton 1997 ...

Counterrotation in Galaxies [PDF]
The phenomenon of counterrotation is observed when two galaxy components have their angular momenta projected antiparallel onto the sky. It follows that if the two components rotate around the same axis, the counter-rotation is intrinsic. On the contrary the counterrotation is only apparent if the rotation axes are misaligned and the line-of-sight lies

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Janus kinase 2 inhibition by pacritinib as potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis
Diagram of the activation of the profibrotic and procontractile Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/Ras homolog family member A/Rho‐kinase pathway and the inhibition of phosphorylated JAK2 by pacritinib to inhibit hepatic stellate cell activity. Abstract Background and Aims Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signaling is increased in human and experimental liver fibrosis with ...

Automatic quantitative morphological analysis of interacting galaxies [PDF]
The large number of galaxies imaged by digital sky surveys reinforces the need for computational methods for analyzing galaxy morphology. While the morphology of most galaxies can be associated with a stage on the Hubble sequence, morphology of galaxy ...

Quenched Galaxies in Clusters of Galaxies and Their Outskirts [PDF]
Based on the SDSS data, the properties of galaxies with quenched star formation (QGs) within the "splashback"-radius of galaxy clusters $R_{\rm sp}$ and beyond it have been studied.

Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon
