Galaxy formation [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
Theories of galaxy formation via hierarchical clustering of cold dark matter and by fragmentation of gaseous pancakes or shells are reviewed and compared. Dissipative processes are crucial to all theories of galaxy formation, and are discussed in terms of a simple model involving multiple cloud interactions.

Laboratory information systems for research management in biology

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2023
Modern investigations in biology often require the efforts of one or more groups of researchers. Often these are groups of specialists from various scientific fields who generate and share data of different formats and sizes. Without modern approaches to

Strong Progenitor Age Bias in Supernova Cosmology and Alignment with DESI BAO

open access: yesUniverse
Supernova (SN) cosmology is based on the assumption that the luminosity of type Ia SNe, after the luminosity standardization process, remains invariant with progenitor age.

The influences of the Magellanic Clouds on the Galaxy: Pole shift, warp, and star formation history

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate how the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) influences the evolution of the Galaxy after the LMC enters into the virial radius of the dark matter halo of the Galaxy for the first time.

Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) blended spectra catalogue: strong galaxy-galaxy lens and occulting galaxy pair candidates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present the catalogue of blended galaxy spectra from the Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey. These are cases where light from two galaxies are significantly detected in a single GAMA fibre.

GALAXY GROUPS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2015
Galaxy groups can be characterized by the radius of decoupling from cosmic expansion, the radius of the caustic of second turnaround, and the velocity dispersion of galaxies within this latter radius. These parameters can be a challenge to measure, especially for small groups with few members.

Abstract Number ‐ 5: Interim Results of PRE‐SEAL IT Saccular Endovascular Aneurysm Lattice System First in Human Interventional Trial

open access: yesStroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology, 2023
Introduction Preliminary in vivo animal intracranial aneurysm (IA) studies have demonstrated promising immediate and follow‐up aneurysm occlusion rates using the novel Saccular Endovascular Aneurysm Lattice (SEAL) system.

Alignment and morphology of elliptical galaxies: the influence of the cluster tidal field

open access: yes, 1994
We investigate two possible effects of the tidal field induced by a spherical cluster on its elliptical galaxy members: the modification of the ellipticity of a spherical galaxy and the isophotal alignment in the cluster radial direction of a misaligned ...

An algorithm for the direct reconstruction of the dark matter correlation function from weak lensing and galaxy clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The clustering of matter on cosmological scales is an essential probe for studying the physical origin and composition of our Universe. To date, most of the direct studies have focused on shear-shear weak lensing correlations, but it is also possible to ...

The Millennium Galaxy Catalogue: Galaxy Bimodality [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2006
AbstractGalaxy bimodality is caused by the bulge-disc nature of galaxies as opposed to two distinct galaxy classes. This is evident in the colour-structure plane which clearly shows that elliptical galaxies (bulge-only) lie in the red compact peak and late-type spiral galaxies (disc-dominated) lie in the blue diffuse peak.
