Outliers from the Mass--Metallicity Relation II: A Sample of Massive Metal-Poor Galaxies from SDSS

open access: yes, 2008
We present a sample of 42 high-mass low-metallicity outliers from the mass--metallicity relation of star-forming galaxies. These galaxies have stellar masses that span log(M_*/M_sun) ~9.4 to 11.1 and are offset from the mass--metallicity relation by -0.3

Chromosome‐scale genome assembly of the South American fruit fly, Anastrepha fraterculus sp.1

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Anastrepha fraterculus sp. 1 is a major fruit fly pest in Argentina, currently controlled through chemical treatments and traps. This study aims to enhance the genomic understanding of this species to support the development of sterile insect technique as well as the use of innovative technologies.

The abundance and radial distribution of satellite galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2005
Using detailed mock galaxy redshift surveys (MGRSs) we investigate the abundance and radial distribution of satellite galaxies. The mock surveys are constructed using the conditional luminosity function (CLF), and are compared against data from the 2dFGRS.

Analysis of the Internal Radial Gradient of Chemical Abundances in Spiral Galaxies from CALIFA

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The study of chemical evolution is of paramount importance for understanding the evolution of galaxies. Models and observations propose an inside-out mechanism in the formation of spiral galaxy disks, implying a negative radial gradient of elemental ...

A deep Chandra observation of the poor cluster AWM4 - II. The role of the radio jets in enriching the intra-cluster medium

open access: yes, 2010
We use a Chandra observation of the poor cluster AWM4 to map the temperature and abundance of the intra-cluster medium, so as to examine the influence of the central radio galaxy on its environment.

Element Abundances at High Redshifts: The N/O Ratio in a Primeval Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The damped Lyman alpha systems seen in the spectra of high redshift QSOs offer the means to determine element abundances in galaxies observed while still at an early stage of evolution.

Spatial Dynamics and Lifespan of Adult Cicadas After Fire and Logging: A Radiotracking Study

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study investigates the effects of wildfire and post‐fire salvage logging on the survival, spatial behavior, and habitat selection of Lyristes plebejus cicadas in Mediterranean pine forests. A total of 63 cicadas were captured, tagged with radio transmitters, and released in three disturbance contexts: burnt‐logged, burnt‐unlogged, and unburnt ...

CARBON AND NITROGEN ABUNDANCES IN EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2009
For the first time, we undertake a systematic examination of the nitrogen abundances for a sample of 35 early-type galaxies spanning a range of masses and local environment. The nitrogen-sensitive molecular feature at 3360 has been employed in conjunction with a suite of atomic- and molecular-sensitive indices to provide unique and definitive ...

Milky Way’s Metal-poor Stars Display Chemical Transition near the Solar Radius

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The metal-poor stars of a galaxy offer insights into that galaxy’s early formation processes and accretion history. Here, we investigate whether the metal-poor stars of our Milky Way Galaxy exhibit any characteristic trends in Galactocentric distance ...

Physical conditions and element abundances in SN and GRB host galaxies at different redshifts

open access: yes, 2016
We compare the physical parameters and the relative abundances calculated throughout supernova (SN) and gamma-ray burst (GRB) host galaxies by the detailed modelling of the spectra. The results show that : 1) shock velocities are lower in long period GRB
